ObjectiveTo evaluate the sex,age,location distribution of Schmorl' snodes(SN)in MRI images of the lumbar spine.And to analyze the correlation between SN with degeneration type of lumbar intervertebral discs so as to improve the level of knowing it.Methods781 patients who were examined by lumbar MRI scan in the hospital of g uangzhou university of TCM from 1 September 2016 to 1 December 2016 were included in the study,The patients' age,sex,location occured in different vertebra of the Schmorl's nodes,the MRI signals' type of Schmorl's nodes,the degeneration type of lumbar intervertebral discs(normality,disc bulg ing,disc herniation,disc prolapse,Modic changes,HIZ)and the MRI data were all recorded and contrast analyzed.Results93 Schmorl's nodes patients(male:54,female:39)were detected in 781 participants(male:376,female:405),the incidence of lumbar Schmorl's nodes is 11.9%;the incidence of Schmorl's nodes in male is 14.4%,female 9.6%(P<0.05);Age seemed not to be correlated to the incidence of lumbar Schmorl's nodes(P>0.05);Most Schmorl's nodes locate at the top edge of L3(4.1%),the top edge of L2 and L5(3.8%),the bottom edge of L4(3.7%),the top edge of L4(3.6%),There was significant differences between each group(P<0.005);Most Schmorl' s nodes locate at the superior endplates of vertebra(3.3%),the inferior endplates of vertebra(2.4%)(P<0.005);93 patients had 465 intervertebral disc segments,255 segments of 465 disc segments were involved with lumbar intervertebral discs degeneration,the incidence of lumbar Schmorl's nodes in disc degeneration is higher(47.8%),And SN' s MRI signal type seemed not to be correlated to the incidence of lumbar intervertebral discs degeneration(P>0.05);127 segments of 465 disc segments were involved with disc bulging,the incidence of lumbar Schmorl' s nodes in disc bulging is higher(48%),There was significant differences between each group(P<0.005),And the incidence of disc bulging were no significant differences between groups with both sides Schmorl' s nodes and one side Schmorl' s nodes;Disc herniation,disc prolapse,HIZ seemed not to be correlated to the incidence of lumbar Schmorl' s nodes(P>0.05);Modic changes were 64,the incidence of lumbar Schmorl's nodes in Modic changes is higher(73.4%),There was significant differences between each group(P<0.005);ConclusionThe incidence of lumbar SN in male' s was more than female ' s in this study.Most Schmorl's nodes located at the top edge of L3,the top edge of L2 and L5,the bottom edge of L4,the top edge of L4,and also located at the superior endplates of vertebra;The Schmorl' s nodes had a obvious relationship with disc degeneration and disc bulging,Schmorl's nodes were highly associated with Modic changes.
