ObjectUnilateral subfrontal approach is common for microsurgical resection of olfactory groove meningiomas, while lateral supraorbital approach, owning the advantage of convenience, beauty and minimally invasion, has gradually proceeded in recent years. Our object is to compare the safety and efficacy of the two approaches.MethodsWe retrospectively collect 65 cases of olfactory groove meningiomas under microsurgical resection in the Second Affliated Hospital of Medical School,Zhejiang University and Binjiang Hospital,Hangzhou from Jun.1,2013 to Jan.1,2017,dividing into groups of lateral supraorbital approach(Group A,n = 22)and group of unilateral subfrontal approach(Group B,n = 23)based on different approaches.Following-up to Mar.1,2017,we gather the baseline date, degree of tumor resection, operative time, intraoperative bleeding volum, postoperative complications, visual or olfactory function change, hospital stays,follow-up data,to analyse the safety and efficacy of the two approaches.ResultsThere are no significant differences of group A and group B in in degree of tumorresection, duration of operation, postoperative complications, visual or olfactory function change,GOS score of discharge time and the end of follow-up time,KPS score of the end of follow-up time, recurrence and death.Thereinto, the rate of morbidity desiring for surgical intervetion of group A is lower than group B(0.0%vs 4.3%,P>0.05),but also own no significantly statistical difference. There are significant differences of group A and group B in intraoperative bleeding volum(170.55±89.52 ml vs 267.39±147.41 ml,P<0.05)and hospital stays(14.14±3.54 days vs 18.52±5.27 days,P<0.05).ConclusionLateral supraorbital approach is deserved to popularize for the advantages of less intraoperative bleeding volum, short length of stay and low severe morbidity, comparing with unilateral subfrontal approach.
