Purpose To analyze the clinical data of congenital cataract form-deprivation patients and investigate the characteristics of their eye growth. Methods This is a retrospective study. We collected the clinical data of 264 patients(432 eyes)who have been diagnosed of congenital cataract in Qingdao Eye hospital between March 2009 and July 2015.The patients? ages ranged from 2 months to 28 years(mean: 4.21 +/-4.36 years). There were 124 boys and 140 girls.Among those, there were 96 unilateral congenital cataracts and 168 bilateral congenital cataracts. These patients were divided into five age stages:(~6 months),(6 months~),(1year ~),(3 years ~),and(5 years ~).I.Analyze the eyeball growth of unilateral congenital cataract form-deprivation patients.Ninety unilateral cataract patients were included. There were 11 patients younger than 6 months,6 patients between 6 months and 1 year,20 patients between1 year and 3 years old,20 patients between3 years and 5 years old,33 patients between 5 years and 15 years old.(1)Paired t-test was used to compare ocular axial length between the suffering eyesand healthy eyes.(2)According to the relative eye axial length, these patients were divided into short axial group(40 cases)and long axial group(50 cases). With the deprivation time going on,we analyze the age changes in both groups and use correlation test to compare the relationship between ocular axial length and the time of form-deprivation.(3)According to the degree of form-deprivation,the patients were divided into two groups the full mixed type(full form-deprivation)(24 cases)and non-full mixed type(uncomplete form-deprivation)(66 cases).Multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the influence of gender, nystagmus, strabismus, the time and degree of form-deprivation on eye axial length.(4)Paired t-test was used to compare the cornea curvature difference between the affected eyesand healthy eyes.?.Count the development of eye axis and corneal curvature of congenital cataract form-deprivation patients ?.Count the clinical data of lens opacity type, nystagmus, strabismus, corneal diameter, and so on of congenital cataract form-deprivation patients. Results I.The ocular axial development of unilateral congenital cataract form-deprivation patients(1)The ocular axial length of the affected eyes was shorter than the healthy eyes in the patients whose age were younger than six months. The ocular axial length of the affected eyes was longer than the healthy eyes in the patients whose age were between 5 years and 15 years old.The ocular axial length difference was no statistical significance of the patients whose age were between six months and 5 years old.(2)There was a positive correlation between form-deprivation time and ocular axial length.(3)With the growth of the age,the proportion of patients with long ocular axis was gradually increased, while the proportion of patients with short ocular axis is decreased. As was shown by multiple regression analysis that difference of ocular axial length between affected eyes and healthy eyes is significantly with the form-deprivation time going on.And the influence of complete form-deprivation on eye axis was more significant than uncomplete form-deprivation while sex, nystagmus and strabismus seem no influence on ocular axial length.(4)The average of the suffering eye curvature was 43.73±2.01 D and the average of healthy eyes is 43.31±1.65 D.The cornea curvature differences between affected eyes and healthy eyes were not statistically significant among five age groups.?.The development of ocular axis and corneal curvature of bilateral congenital cataract form-deprivation patients The averages of ocular axial length were 17.97±1.42 mm ? 20.10±1.48 mm ?21.93±1.47mm?22.12±2.35mm?23.66±1.72 mm respectively among five age groups.?.The lens opacity type, nystagmus, strabismus, and so forth of patients with congenital cataract(1)The lens opacity type: Among 432 eyes,26 eyes were posterior capsule cataract(6.02%);17 eyes were polar cataract(3.94%);30 eyes were suture cataract(6.94%);8 eyes were embryonic nuclear cataract(1.85%);30 eyes were nuclear cataract(6.95%);70 eyes were around the nuclear cataract(16.20%);125 eyes were all the cataract(28.94%);30 eyes were developmental cataracts(6.95%);96 eyes were merge two or more cloudy(22.22%).(2)Tremor: Among 264 patients, there were 53 patients with tremor, including 41 bilateral patients and 12 monocular patients.(3)Strabismus :Among 264 patients, there were 49 patients with strabismus including 23 patients with two eyes and 26 patients with unilateral cataract.Conclusions(1)The ocular axial length of the affected eyes was shorter than the healthy eyes in the early stage of congenital cataract form-deprivation.And the ocular axial length of the affected eyes was longer than the healthy eyes in the late stage of congenital cataract form-deprivation.(2)The degree and time of form-deprivation affect the growth of ocular axis significantly.(3)There was no significant influence of the congenital cataract form-deprivation on corneal curvature growth.
