Expression Of C-kit And PDGFR? In Human Skin Tumor

ObjectiveSquamous-cell carcinoma(SCC),basal cell epithelioma(BCC)are the most common forms of skin tumors.Recent studies showed that C-kit and Platelet-derived growth factors ?(PDGFR?)plays a key role in the development of tumors.This study aimed to investigate the expression of C-kit and PDGFR? protein in human skin tumors and its clinical significance.Methods:C-kit and PDGFR? expressions were detected by immunohistochemical staining in 10 squamous-cell carcinoma(SCC),20 basal cell epithelioma(BCE),10 actinic keratosis and 10 normal skin tissues.Results:C-kit protein expression could be observed in these skin tumors,precancerous tissues and normal skin tissues,the skin tumors(93.30%),the precancerous tissues(50.0%),and the normal controls(20.0%)respectively.The expression rate in skin tumors groups was higher than in precancerous tissues,the normal controls groups(respectively,P<0.05).The abnormal expression of PDGFR? in three research groups increased with malignancy of these diseases,the skin tumors(90.0%),the precancerous tissues(40.0%),and the normal controls(10.0%)respectively.Expression of PDGFR? was significantly higher in the group of skin tumors than in the precancerous tissues(P<0.05),or the normal controls(P<0.05),but there were no statistical differences between the precancerous tissues and the normal controls(P>0.05).ConclusionThere is over-expression of C-kit in skin tumors,which play an important role in the genesis and progress of human skin tumors.The expression of PDGFR? is correlated with the over-expression of C-kit protein.PDGFR? may cooperate with C-kit to promote the formation and development of skin tumors.
