BI, Chaozhong takes advantage of modern diagnostic technologies and treatment methods on the bases of looking, listening, questioning and feeling the pulse, combining syndrome discrimination and disease differentiation. He emphasizes the holism of human bodies in academics, always finds out the roots of the diseases and gains excellent clinical effects. BI, Chaozhong, who deeply understands the application of LI, Dongyuan's replenishing Qi and elevating Yang method, is good at using decoction of raising Yang and nourishing stomach and decoction of tonifying middle Jiao and Qi to treat common and complicated diseases, and receives remarkable clinical effects. He has had over 20 papers published in Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Emergency Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China, and Journal of New Chinese Medicine as well. He designed the recipe called Xuanfei Zhike Mixture. This recipe has been widely used as a hospital preparation in the clinical practice and showed fantastic effects. The laboratory and clinical research about this program was awarded Grade Three Prized of Health, Science and Technology Progress in Chongqing in 1996.This paper is going to discover a method combining objectivity and subjectivity, deeply explore BI, Chaozhong's academic experience and rules of diagnosing and treating common and complicated diseases, objectively summarize his clinical experience of using replenishing Qi and elevating Yang minus or plus, provide theoretical evidence for further popularization, development and innovation of his academic experience, and promote the inheritance and development of his Chinese Medical academic experience, through organizing and researching BI, Chaozhong's clinical cases and systemically exploring, researching, collecting, organizing and analyzing his precious clinical data related to applying replenishing Qi and elevating Yang.Method:Based on systemic literature review and collation of ancient and modern academic works and classic medical cases about using replenishing Qi and elevating Yang to treat diseases, this paper systemically analyzes the modern research trend, the current status of clinical application and tendency regarding utilizing replenishing Qi and elevating Yang, demonstrates the significance of replenishing Qi and elevating Yang while treating illnesses, and provides essential theoretical support for clinical research.Based on BI, Chaozhong's 100 retrospective clinic cases and 200 prospective cases with regard to applying replenishing Qi and elevating Yang to treat diseases, the author collects these cases, collates information, builds data base, uses data mining, SPSS clementine, frequency method, clustering procedure and correlation analysis in order to analyze and study his therapy, rules of treatment, clinical effectiveness and frequency of prescribing medications, concludes the diagnoses, basic prescriptions and rules of adding or deducting dosages of medications, summarizes well-known Chinese medical academic thoughts and improves clinical effectiveness of applying replenishing Qi and elevating Yang to treat diseases. The author applies in-depth interview to discuss the academic thoughts hidden in the results of data. Based on the data statistics and data mining and their results, the author mainly considers BI, Chaozhong's opinions, combining the analyses of Traditional Chinese Medical theories and knowledge. The in-depth interview is about BI, Chaozhong's clinical experience of utilizing replenishing Qi and elevating Yang, rules of prescribing medications, diagnoses, previous achievements in science, and published papers and books. The author hands in hard copies of materials to BI, Chaozhong, asks for feedback and summarizes immediately after the end of the conversation. With the gradual exploration of the interview, the author finally concludes BI, Chaozhong's clinical experience of using replenishing Qi and elevating Yang on dialectical methods, dialectical thinking, characters of medication combinations, experience of prescribing group medications and clinical effectiveness. Results:Data mining indicates that BI, Chaozhong is adept at utilizing Replenishing Qi and Elevating Yang to treat common diseases. The results of data mining are as follows: 1. Through frequency method, the most commonly used recipes by BI, Chaozhong in treating common diseases are Shengyang Yiwei decoction, Buzhong Yiqi Decoction, Shengyang Sanhuo Decoction and Guipi Decoction minus or plus.2. Frequency method also reveals that the most frequently applied medications by BI, Chaozhong in treating common diseases have 27 types, including astraglus, atractylodes, codonopsis (ginseng, radix pseudostellariae), liquorice, dried tangerine peel, rhizoma pinellinae praeparata, angelica, poria, ligusticum wallichii, radix seleris, notopterygium root, angelica pubescens, radix clematidis, the root of kudzu vine, coptis, radix bupleuri, radix paeoniae alba, scutellaria baicalensis, medicated leaven, fructus hordei germinatus, rice sprout, hawthorn, chicken's gizzard-membrane, polygonum multiflorum, salviae miltiorrhizae, medlar, uncaria, fructus amomi and common vladimiria root. The frequency of each medication used is more than 50%times. The functions of theses herbs are to tonify the spleen, activate the spleen, dehumidify bodies, regulate the flow of vital energy, reduce phlegm, calm the liver, raise Yang, excrete toxins and heat and promote blood circulation. BI, Chaozhong's academic experience in replenishing Qi an elevating Yang and valuing the spleen and the stomach has been validated.3. According to Entropy clustering analysis of complex systems, the core medication combinations of BI, Chaozhong's Yiqi Shengyang recipe are panax+atractylodes+astraglus for invigorating spleen and supplementing Qi, dried tangerine peel+pinellia ternata for regulating vital energy and dispelling phlegm, radix sileris+notopterygium root+angelica pubescens+radix bupleuri+rattletop+radix clematidis+the root of kudzu vine for elevating Yang.Conclusions:1. BI, Chaozhong's diagnoses and treatment of common diseases are profoundly influenced by LI, Dongheng, SHI, Jinmo and SHI, Yushu, all of whom are good at using combined medications. These medication combinations containing many kinds of herbs seem very rigorous not tedious. BI, Chaozhong emphasizes the importance of the spleen and the stomach, and pays attention to regulate the spleen and the stomach. He treats many diseases and regulates the spleen and the stomach simultaneously.2. BI, Chaozhong thinks highly of the whole dynamic balance of human bodies, considers local geography and climate in Chongqing, and points out that the main pathogeneses of the common diseases in Chongqing are the dysfunction of the spleen and the stomach, phlegmatic hygrosis and inner stasis, and Yang Qi stagnation; therefore, harmonizing the spleen and the stomach, adjusting Yin and Yang, rectifying deviation and strengthening the body resistance, and replenishing Qi and elevating Yang should be noticed during the treatment. His academic experience of replenishing Qi and elevating Yang reflects the characteristics of pathogeneses of the common diseases in Chongqing, which can guide clinical practice.3. BI, Chaozhong's experience, which replenishes Qi and elevates Yang, uses carminatives and takes regulating the rise and fall and the input and output of Qi function seriously, is very effective to treat common diseases and worth spreading and applying.4. Data mining technology finds out BI, Chaozhong's academic experience and reveals his rules of using medications and recipes to harmonize the spleen and the stomach, to replenish Qi and elevate Yang, and to regulate the rise and fall and the input and output of Qi function. These findings show that computer technology is essential to analyze academic experience of famous doctors of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
