[Objective]The purpose of this study was to investigate the present level of nurses'Knowledge-Attitude/Belief-Practice Model(KABP/KAP)about Nursing for preventing Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia(VAP)in Intensive Care Unit(ICU),and to explore the related factors, which may affect the level of nurses' KAP about nursing for preventing VAP in ICU,to table feasibility proposals to enhance nurses in ICU complying with guideline for preventing VAP,to provide references and evidence for nursing education and training program to prevent VAP.[Methods]This study was carried out at a teaching hospital with 8 ICUs from September to October 2016.A multiple choice questionnaire was designed to assess KAP of VAP prevention of ICU nurses. The whole survey questionnaire consists of two main sections:the survey questionnaire of nurses' KAP about nursing for preventing VAP in ICU and the general demographic data of nurse in ICU.250 ICU nurses received the questionnaire. The data were analyzed by SPSS22.0 software and managed by Epidata3.1 software. Then standard deviation, median, percentage and so on were used for statistical description.One-way analysis of variance,T test, multiple step-wise regression analysis, and Chi square test were used to describe the influencing factors.[Results]1.The reliability and validity of the self-administered structured questionnaire are acceptable. The questionnaire can be used to assess the KAP of nursing for preventing VAP and influencing factors in ICU nurses.2.The full scores of nursing for preventing VAP for ICU nurses that related to KAP were respectively 18,35,55.The total averages scores of ICU nurses that related to KAP were respectively 10.36±3.20,23.76±6.22,36.58±8.90.3.There are positive correlations for respondents to nursing for preventing VAP according to KAP.The correlation coefficient respectively was 0.472,0.503,0.763,and there is a statistically significant difference(P<0.01).4.According to single factor analysis, there was a remarkable difference(P<0.05)in different age, marital status, title,ICU working years, with or without specialist qualifications of ICU nurses about effects on the scores of VAP knowledge. There was a remarkable difference(P<0.05)in different age, marital status, first degree, title, length of service,ICU working years, level, with or without specialist qualification of ICU nurses for having effect on the scores of VAP attitude/belief.There was a remarkable difference(P<0.05)in different age, marital status, title, length of service,ICU years, level, availability of ICU nurses for having effect on the scores of VAP practice.5.Multiple liner step-wise regression analysis showed that the ICU working years into knowledge regression equation, which could explain 10.8%variations of the total knowledge.Marital status and ICU working years into attitude/belief regression equation, which could explain 45.8%variations of the total attitude/belief.The ICU working years into practice regression equation which could explain 44.5%variations of the total practice.[Conclusions]1.Through investigation,we found that ICU nurses had a low degree knowledge about preventing VAP,the attitude/belief and behavior need to be further consolidated and improved.2.The ICU working years was the influenced factors that affected the knowledge of nursing for preventing VAP among nurses in ICU.Marital status and ICU working years were the influenced factors that affected the attitude/belief towards nursing for preventing VAP among nurses in ICU.The ICU working years were the influenced factors that affected the behavior of nursing for preventing VAP among nurses in ICU.3.It is suggested that the knowledge of nursing for preventing VAP should be trained and learned,to consolidate the attitude/belief of implementation of guidelines and to strengthen the behavior of implementing of nursing to prevent VAP in ICU.4.There was an obvious correlation between the KAP of nursing for preventing VAP of nurses in ICU.
