Objective To observe the influence of KeJingFang hot moist compress to muscle tension, motor function, activities of daily living and neurologic impairment on patients with upper limb spasm after ischemic stroke, in order to provide an effective and convenient method for the treatment of clinical and community. Methods This study is randomized controlled trials, A total of 60 patients were recruited according to the diagnosis, reception and exclusion criterion during November 2014 to May 2016 in department of Neurology and department of rehabilitation, and they were randomly divided into test group (30 cases) and control group (30 cases) by Excel. All patients received routine treatment and health education, while patient from the treatment group received KeJingFang hot moist compress (20 min for every day,30 days in total, once a day). The changes of muscle tension, motor function, Activities of daily living and neurologic impairment in the two groups during the intervention period were recorded and evaluated.Results1.Baseline comparisonThere was no significant difference in general condition (gender, occupation, education, hemiplegia limb etc.), the basic clinical data (course of disease, age, etc.), between the two groups before the trial (P>0.05). And there was no significant difference in the muscle tension, motor function, activity of daily living, and neurologic impairment, in other words, the two groups characterize comparability.2. muscle tension(1) Comparisons between groups:the Ashworth spasm rating in treatment group presents a significant decrease in comparison with that in the control group after treatments (P<0.05).(2) Comparisons within group:the Ashworth spasm rating of two groups exhibit significant decreases after treatments than the original counterparts (P<0.05).3.motor function of upper limb(1) Comparisons between groups:the Fugl-Meyer Assessment in treatment group presents a significant decrease in comparison with that in the control group after treatments (P<0.01).(2) Comparisons within group:the Fugl-Meyer Assessment of two groups exhibit significant decreases after treatments than the original counterparts (P<0.01).4. the ability of daily living(1) Comparisons between groups:the Barthel ADL index in treatment group presents a significant decrease in comparison with that in the control group after treatments (P<0.01).(2) Comparisons within group:the Barthel ADL index of two groups exhibit significant decreases after treatments than the original counterparts (P<0.01).5. neurologic impairment(1) Comparisons between groups:the CSS in treatment group presents a significant decrease in comparison with that in the control group after treatments (P<0.05).(2) Comparisons within group:the CSS of two groups exhibit significant decreases after treatments than the original counterparts (P<0.05).Conclusion1. Both of the KeJingFang hot moist compress combined with rehabilitation therapy and rehabilitation therapy can relieve spasticity, promote the motor function, improve the ability of daily living, and ruduc the neurologic impairment for patients with upper limb spasticity after cerebral ischemic stroke.2. Compared with rehabilitation therapy alone, as KeJingFang hot moist compress combined with rehabilitation treatment for better rehabilitation effect of patients with upper limb spasticity after cerebral ischemic stroke.
