Analysis On Death Cause Of Epileptics In Rural Areas In Ningxia

Background: Epilepsy is a disease of the nervous system,mainly caused by lesions in the brain,are persistent can produce seizures,persistent changes in the brain,and appear Neurobiology,cognitive,psychological and sociological consequences.It was reported [ 1 ] epilepsy mortality rates is between 1-4.5/10 million in foreign countries, epidemiological investigation of 3-7.9/10 million, there would be an 0.1% death due to epilepsy related deaths in patients with epilepsy, epilepsy mortality is 2-3 times the mortality rate in the general population[ 2 ]. And cerebrovascular accidents, deaths caused by intracranial infection and other diseases of the nervous system,with a variety of epilepsy-related death,a variety of mechanisms,as well as characteristics of the high mortality rate,complexity and diversity of causes of death[ 3 ]. In view of such a high mortality rate and the various causes of death,through the analysis of death causes of epilepsy in clinical study of epilepsy-related death, not only to prevent deaths in patients with epilepsy,but also provide the basis for the Department of public health-related decisions.Objective: Analysis of death causes and mortality of epilepsy in rural area of Ningxia, providing the basis to prevent deaths in patients with epilepsy,and further reduce mortality.Materials and methods: Collected patients of epilepsyon January 1,2012 to December 31,2014 within the model of epilepsy in rural area of Ningxia and analysis retrospectively, Excel form is used to establish the database, statistical analysis of count data with SPSS17.0 software were compared with the ?2 test, when the P<0.05 is significantly.Results: In the 2012-2014 years,a total of 137 cases died in demonstration projects into groups of epilepsy in rural area of Ningxia,the average annual mortality rate was 1.4 per 100,000. Male is 83 deaths, a mortality rate of 1.8/100,000,women is 54 deaths, the mortality rate was1.1 per 100,000 and mortality were significantly different in men and women with epilepsy; seizures in the causes of death is in the first place, the ratio is 32.8%, other causes of death followed by accident,cerebrovascular diseases and unexplained death.Epilepsy patients were found mainly in the youth group of death,death ratio is higher than other groups,cerebrovascular disease in the elderly as cause of death is more than other age groups,there was a statistically significant difference;In nervous system diseases,the cause of epilepsy is the leading cause of death in the neurological disease.Conclusion: Mortality in rural areas of Ningxia is 1.4 per 100,000, lower than China's previous report;Male's mortality is higher than female in patients with epilepsy;The component of epilepsy followed by seizures, accidents(drowning and accident),cerebral vascular disease,unexplained deaths,respiratory ailments,diseases of the circulatory system,the digestive system diseases and suicide.
