Objective To study the ApoE allele and genotype distribution of the Tibetan, Han and Hui nationalities people in Qinghai province; To explore the association of ApoE polymorphism and outcome following TBI in a patient population from the Tibetan,Han and Hui nationalities in Qinghai province.Method Select 115 patients who sustained mild to moderate TBI as the subjects of the study.According to the Glasgow Coma Score, the new patients was divided into the mild group(13-15 points) and moderate group(9-12 points).Patients were divided into three groups(Tibetan, Han and Hui nationalities). The Patients 6 months after brain trauma were divided into good prognosis group(4-5 points) and poor prognosis group(1-3 points) according to the GOS.ApoE polymorphism status was determined by PCR-RFLP technique using venous blood. Results 1.Of 115 patients in the study,24(20.87%)patients had one or more ApoE?4 allele.2.ApoE?3/?3(65.22%)was the most commonly found genotype followed by ApoE ?3/?4. 3.There were only four patients with ?4/?4 genotype and one patient with ?2/?2 genotype. 4.The allele frequencies for ?2,?3 and ?4 alleles were 8.70%?79.13% and 12.17% respectively. 5.Our results revealed that 20.83% of ApoE?4 carriers had an unfavorable outcome compared to 21.98% of non-carriers of ApoE?4.This difference was not found to be statistically significant(p=0.9035).6.The differences of prognosis between Tibetan group and The hui group or Tibetan group and The han nationality group were found to be statistically significant(P<0.0125).The difference of ApoE?4 prevalence rate between the three ethnic groups was not found to be statistically significant(p=0.7402).Conclusion ApoE?3/?3 was the most commonly found genotype followed by ApoE ?3/?4.The allele frequencies for ?2,?3 and ?4 alleles were 8.70%?79.13% and 12.17% respectively in Qinghai province Population. The prognosis of tibetan patients is better than the han nationality patients and the hui nationality patients. The prognosis of TBI has no obvious relation with ApoE ?4 alleles.
