Objective: By doing a retrospective study on patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC), this study investigates the prognostic factors of ICC and examines the correlation between CA242 and poor prognosis in patients. Methods: We collected information from 41 resectable ICC patients, including their clinicopathological characteristics and outcomes following related surgical treatment at Xinhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine between February 2001 to February 2010. We analyzed the survival rates and related prognostic factors for all these patients. Results: In this cohort of 41 patients with ICC, we find that the corresponding survival rates for 1-year, 3-year and 5-year are 63.4%, 48.8% and 29.3%, respectively. Multiple tumors, tumor differentiation and lymph node metastasis are found to be associated with the poor long-term survival of ICC prognosis independently. And there is no significant correlation between CA242 and poor prognosis of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. However, both CA242 and CA19-9 combined detection are significantly correlated with poor prognosis of ICC.Conclusion: In sum, multiple tumors, tumor differentiation and lymph node metastasis are three independent prognostic factors of poor long-term survival in patients with ICC. And combined detection of tumor markers can improve the predictions of ICC poor prognosis.
