Objective To explore the serum sex steroid hormone levels' changes in male patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome, and establish whether sexual hormone sections underlie OSAHS pathology. Methods PubMed,EMbase,Web ofscience,Cochrane library,CBM,Wanfangdata electronic databases,CNKI were screened up to December 2015 for literatures including case control study, cohort study and cross-sectional study about the sex steroid hormone levels' changes and OSAHS.Two reviewers independently performed data extraction, quality evaluation and cross check, and Meta analysis was performed with RevMan(version 5.3)and Comprehensive Meta-Analysis(version 2.0) software. Results A total of seventeen case control studies were involved, including 1144subjects(17 studies for T,12 studies for FSH,13 studies for LH,7 studies for PRL,5 studies for E2,3 studies for P).Meta-analysis showed that the level of testosterone in male OSAHS patients were 0.68ng/ml(95%CI:-0.89~-0.48,P<0.00001)lower than that in the control group. Meta-regression for age, BMI, and AHI showed that age,BMI and AHI had significant effect for T.Conclusion In this meta-analysis, plasma testosterone was found to be lower in male OSAHS patients compared to control subjects.
