Objective:Parkinson's disease(PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease in the elderly, and the risk of hip fracture in patients with Parkinson's disease is significantly higher than that of normal people. In recent years, there is a report on the reduction of bone mass in patients with PD. Bone loss can cause a corresponding change in the geometry of the hip. Bone mineral density(BMD) and hip geometry are good indicators of risk of hip fracture.The perpose of this study si to investigate the changes of bone mineral density(BMD) and bone geometry of hip in patients with Parkinson's disease.Methods:The medical records of 30 people with parkinson's disease and 64 healthy controls in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University was included in this study?There are 11 males,and 19 females in PD group,the average age was 64.23 + 6.59 years old. There are 22 males,and 42 females in control group,the average age was 64.94 + 4.42 years old. 25- hydroxy vitamin D levels was measured?Bone mineral density(BMD)at the left femoral neck(FN) ?intertrochanteric(IT) ?Femoral shaft(FN)and total hip was measured with dual energy X-ray absorptionmetry?Hip geometry parameters were determined by hip strength analysis(HAS) program.Result:1. On the comparison of bone mineral density :25- hydroxy vitamin D and BMD at the FN ?IT ?FN and total hip were significantly lower in PD group compared with controled group(P<0.05).25- hydroxy vitamin D was positively correlated with total hip's BMD.2. On the comparison of hip geometry: There are no significant difference in HAL and CSMI between two groups.IT-CSA?FS-CT were significantly lower and FN-BR?IT-BR?FS-BR?NSA significantly higher in PD group compared with controls.After adjusting the BMD, there was no significant different between two groups.Conclusion:1.The hip bone density of PD patients is less than normal people, with the decrease of bone mass, there are corresponding changes in the hip geometry. 2.Reduction of bone mass and the corresponding structural changes in the hip increased the risk of hip fracture in patients with PD.
