Objective:The study was designed to explore the expression and clinical significance of Upregulated gene 4(URG4) protein in patients with pancreatic cancer.Methods:1. Consecutive sections of paraffin-embedded tissues were collected from 79 patients with pancreatic cancer who underwent surgery at Fuzhou General Hospital between January 2005 and December 2014.2. Immunohistochemistry was performed to investigate the expression of URG4 in cancer and corresponding adjacent non-cancerous tissues from 79 patients with pancreatic cancer.3. SPSS 18.0 software was used to performed all the analysis. We used Chi-square test to analysis the relationship between URG4 expression and the clinicopathological parameters of patients. The cumulative survival analysis was calculated by the Kaplan-Meier method and the log-rank test. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was conducted to analyze clinicopathological parameters. A probability value less than 0.05 was deemed as statistically significant. moreover, all P values were 2-sided.Results:1. The staining results revealed that the positive rate of URG4 protein was 58.2%(46/79) in pancreatic cancer tissues, which was higher than that in adjacent non-cancer tissues(P<0.05).2. The expression of URG4 was significantly related to TNM stage and lymph node metastasis of tumor, and not related to age, sex, surgical margin, tumor size, tumor site, T stage, perineural invasion and differentiation.3. Pancreatic cancer patients with positive expression of URG4 have a poorer prognosis than those with negative expression of URG4. Multivariate survival analysis indicated that URG4 expression was an independent prognostic factor in the whole cohort and some subgroups of patients.Conclusions:Up-regulated URG4 may contribute to tumor progression and may be useful for predicting prognosis of pancreatic cancer.
