Objective : To explore the effect of preoperative nutritional status in patients with biliary atresia on postoperative cholangitis. Methods:From January 1st 2014 to December 31 st 2014, 66 patients diagnosed with biliary atresia undergoing Kasai portoenterostomy were divided into 3 groups according to the score by using nutritional risk screening tool STRONGkid. All patients were followed-up at the outpatient department or by phone. Results:No patient was with low nutritional risk preoperatively(0%), 30 patients was with moderate nutritional risk preoperatively(45.45%) and36 patients was with high nutritional risk preoperatively(54.55%).The occurrence of initial postoperative cholangitis in patients with moderate nutritional risk was later than those with high nutritional risk, p=0.002.The incidence of early cholangitis in patients with moderate nutritional risk was lower than those with high nutritional risk, p=0.04.The incidence of cholangitis within 3 months postoperatively was significantly lower in patients with moderate nutritional risk compared to those with high risk. The incidence of jaundice clearance within 6 months postoperatively was significantly higher in patients with moderate nutritional risk compared to those with high risk, p=0.014.Conclusions:Patients with high nutritional risk are more vulnerable to early cholangitis and the rate of jaundice clearance is lower in patients with moderate or low nutritional risk. The occurrence of initial postoperative cholangitis in patients with moderate nutritional risk was later than those with high nutritional risk.
