Clinical Study Of PeiTuJianPi Decoction Combined With Medroxyprogesterone In Patients With Cachexia In Chemotherapy

Objective: The core manifestation of tumor cachexia is the persistent loss of skeletal muscle.The clinical manifestations include: weight loss, loss of appetite, early full, fatigue, anemia and edema.Tumor cachexia belongs to the category of Consumption in Traditional Chinese Medicine.We believe that spleen and kidney deficiency contributes to consumption,and the spleen as well as stomach deficiency is the key to the total.So we designed PeiTuJianPi Decoction which can reinforce spleen,promote qi circulation and relieve flatulence,as well as resolving phlegm,in order to observe the clinical curative effect of PeiTuJianPi decoction combined with medroxyprogesterone.Methods: 72 patients with malignant tumor who meet the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into observation group(36 cases) and control group(36 cases).Observation group uses PeiTuJianPi decoction, and with the standard chemotherapy, medroxyprogesterone, enteral nutrition therapy; control group only use standard chemotherapy, medroxyprogesterone and enteral nutrition treatment. Observing three consecutive cycles of chemotherapy,two groups of patients' Subjective Global Assessment(PG-SGA) scores, serum albumin(ALB), body mass index(BMI), Karnofsky(KPS) scores, MDASI-TCM scores will be compared,to observe the effect of PeiTuJianPi decoction in the treatment of cancer cachexia.Results: PeiTuJianPi decoction can significantly improve cancer cachexia patients' nutritional status, improve the serum albumin level and improve the patients physical weakness, relieve clinical symptoms,as well as improving the quality of life of patients(P<0.05). But when it comes to patients' body weight,the BMI after therapy had no significant difference between observation group and control group, indicating that PeiTuJianPi decoction might has no exact effect in stabalize cancer cachexia patients' body weight.Conclusion: Combined with Medroxyprogesterone,PeiTuJianPi decoction can effectively improve the cancer cachexia patients' physical status, help to alleviate patient's clinical symptoms, which can be used as a reference scheme during chemotherapy for cancer cachexia patients.
