Objective: To explore the knowledge of stroke in an inhabitant group over 65 years old in area of Yueyanglou by this survey and to analyze the impact factors of stroke for enhance the relevant knowledge and cognitive level of stroke in the elderly living in area of Yueyanglou. According to this survey, the prevention knowledge of stroke can be supported to evaluation of population health policy.Method: With random cluster sampling method, 1500 people in the area of Yueyanglou filled in questionnaires which were completed by community health workers and graduate student of Nanhua University using a face-to-face interview. The concept of the survey includes the cognition degree of basic knowledge, risk factors, alarm symptoms, ways for help and methods of treatment of stroke. The different factors of sex, income level, literacy and so on which have an effect on the cognition were searched.Result: A total of 1500 participants completed the survey when quality control was strictly enforced. There are 1428 people have heard of stroke, however, another 72 have never heard that. In this survey, the proportion of knowing the parts of the stroke is 60.80%. The highest prevalence of stroke understanding is hypertension(82.60%), the lowest is lacking of exercise(70.60%). The sustained downward trend include that obesity(77.90%), high fat-salt diet(76.30%) and drink(73.20%). More than two-thirds of people have never heard of the risk factors like diabetes, long-term mental stress, heart disease and infection. Among of the warning symptoms, the most widely cognitive symptom is numbness of the limbs(88.53%), in second place is the symptom of mouth askew. Only 9.87% of the people have heard the symptom of blurring of vision. There are still some people choose the wrong answer which is not the warning symptom of stroke. There are 1114(74.3%)people choose to call 120 when suddenly encountering stroke warning signs. The degree of education of the person is significantly associated with the response of calling 120. Only 354(23.60%) are aware of thrombolytic therapy for acute ischemic stroke. 6.00% of whom knew time window of thrombolytic therapy. According to the multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that awareness of thrombolytic therapy is higher among higher lever of education(OR=6.094; 95%CI, 2.546-14.583) and household income(OR=1.505; 95%CI, 0.807-2.806). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the number of warning signs associated with the treatment time window(P<0.05;OR=1.505;95%CI,1.030-1.456). The more knowing of warning signs, the higher rate of knowing treatment time window.Conclusion: Urban of Yueyanglou residents exhibited low awareness regarding of stroke. They have poor awareness of risk factors and warning signs of stroke. The understanding of thrombolytic therapy and treatment time window for acute ischemic stroke is poor.
