Purpose:To retrospectively study the colonoscopy outcomes in patients with lowerdigestive tract symptoms and without warning signs, and to verify the value ofcolonoscopy in these patients. Methods: The colonoscopy outcomes and clinical characteristics of4304patientsfrom Jan.2006to Dec.2011were reviewed and analyzed retrospectively.Results:1.Four thousand and three hundred four patients(2015male,2289female),with1:1.14of male-to-female ratio, and48.0±13.5years old of the average age, were included..The disease course ranged from1to480months, and the patient number with adisease course of between3to12months was the most.2.Among all the4304patients,3534(82.1%) were negative colonoscopic outcomes(called“Negative finding”),and the other770cases(17.9%) had positive findings, which were subdivided into”Symptom-independent lesion”and “Organic lesion”.“Female, age<40years old” were the independent predictor of “Negative fingding”.The patients with negative finding were more often accompanied with singleabdominal discomfort, constipation and other digestive tract symptoms. Symptom-independent lesions were commonly seen in male and whose course were more than12months,while were less in those whose age was less than40years old. Malepatients with less than3months of disease course were more common to find the“Organic lesion”, while those with more than12months of course were rarely foundorganic lesion.3.Two hundred and fifteen cases (5.0%) were diagnosed as colorectal cancer. Amongthem,24cases (1.9%) were less than40,82casess (3.8%) were40~60, and109cases(11.8%) were>60years old. And according to disease course,57cases (11.3%) were<3months,129cases (6.5%) were3~12months, and29patients (1.6%)>12months..Conclusions: About18%patients with lower digestive tract symptoms and without warning signs had positive colonoscopic.“Female,<40years old” were theindependent predictor of negative finding. While “male,>60years old, and <3monthsof disease course” were the parameter to more likely screened out colorectal cancer.
