Objective:To study the expression of SOX2 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma and its significance. Methods:Immunohistochemistry was performed to define the expressions of SOX2 in 20 cervical normal tissue samples and 55 samples of cervical squamous cell carcinoma. The correlations with clinicopathologic characteristics were determined by Chi-square test. The prognostic impact of SOX2 expression in regard of overall survival was determined by Kaplan-Meier.Results:1.The positive expression rate in cervical squamous cell carcinoma was 74.5%(41/55)while in normal cervix was 20.0%(4/20).The difference between them was statistically significant(p=0.000).2.The expression of SOX2 did not correlate with clinical factors(p>0.050).3.The overall disease-free survival rates with negative and positive expressions of SOX2 were 64.3%and 70.7%,respectively(p=0.659).Conclusions:1.SOX2 was overexpressed in cervical squamous cell carcinoma, indicating that overexpressed SOX2 maybe play an important role in carcinogenesis progress of cervical squamous cell carcinoma.2.We found that the expression of SOX2 had no relation to clinical factors such as patients'age?FIGO stage?pathologic differentiation and other clinicopathological factors(P>0.05).3.The expression of SOX2 had no no relation to patients'prognosis.
