Objective To research concentration of serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in the acute paraquat poisoning (APP) patients within 24 h, and to explore VEGF concentration evaluating severity early, and the potential value in judging prognosis. Methods Collected clinical data and blood specimens of 64 APP patients who Committed within 24 hours and were admitted to binzhou medical college affiliated hospitals between September 2012 and December 2012.Sixty-four APP patients were detected in VEGF and paraquat(PQ) concentration, and calculatted paraquat poisoning severity index (SIPP). Sixty-four APP patients based on different SIPP value were added to the< 10 mg·h/L group,10?50 mg·h/L group,>50 mg·h/L group. Results APP group is significantly higher than normal group of VEGF concentration (3857.63± 2525.27 vs 329.96±252.74, P<0.05), SIPP value and VEGF concentrations are positively correlated (n=0.633, P<0.05), VEGF concentration increased with SIPP value. Death in patients with SIPP value, VEGF concentration are negatively correlated with patient survival days of death, (r2=-0.631, r3=-0.820, all P<0.05). The higher of VEGF concentration, the higher the fatality rate (1552.25±260.41 (0),812.41 (38.46%),5531.26±2763.06 (100%), P<0.05). Compare SIPP value 10?50 mg·h/L group with the SIPP value> 50 mg·h/L group, VEGF concentration elevate, patient survival days of death will be reduced (P< 0.05). VEGF, SIPP value substitute to the logistic regression equation analysis shows:Logit (P)=1376.619+0.051×SIPP+0.533×VEGF (all P< 0.05). The area under sensitivity curve (the ROC curve) of VEGF and SIPP values were 0.908 and 0.853, Thein maximum (Youden's index) were 0.519 and 0.568, and the corresponding value were 2593.41 ng/L and 13.68 mg·h/L. When VEGF concentration of APP patients?2593.41 ng/L, the possibility of death increased significantly. When the SIPP value?13.68 mg· h/L, although VEGF concentration in evaluating severity early and the potential value in judging prognosis in specificity is infreior to SIPP values, but its sensitivity is higher than the SIPP values. Conclusion VEGF concentration?2593.41 ng/L can be used as a method of evaluating severity in early and predicting prognosis in APP patients...
