Objective: To explore the relationship between periodontal morphometric parameters, and also identify the types of periodontal phenotype. Methods: 87 periodontally healthy young volunteers paticipated in the study.A survey of the maxillary anterior tooth segment was performed including clinical measurement and analysis of study models.Four clinical parameters were included:gingival thickness(GT),gingival width(GW),papilla height(PH) and crown width/crown length ratio(CW/C L).C luster analysis was employed to identify the gingival morphological types. Results: There were statistically significant relations between GT and GW(r=0.182,P<0.01), between GW and CW/C L(r=0.414,P<0.001), between GW and PH(r=-0.317,P<0.001),also between PH and CW/CL(r=-0.545,P<0.001).3 clusters were identified:cluster?(n=31)displayed a thin and narrow gingiva(GT= 1.11±0.25 mm,GW=4.01±0.89mm),a slender tooth form(CW/CL=0.66±0.10),a PH of 4.65±0.76mm;cluster ?(n=48) presented a similar thin gingiva(GT=1.15 ±0.27mm),a quadratic tooth form(CW/CL=0.76±0.09),a middle GW and PH(GW= 5.78±0.88 mm, PH=4.01±0.58mm);cluster ?(n=8)showed a thick and broad gingiva(GT=1.27±0.34 mm,GW=7.52±0.78mm),a more quadratic tooth form(CW/CL= 0.80±0.08),a low papillae(PH=3.42±0.78mm).Conclusion: Gingival width and gingival thickness as well as crown width/ crown length ratio has statistically significant positive correlation. There were statistically significant nagative correlation between papilla height and gingival w idth as well as crown width/crown length ratio. There were three periodontal phenotypes of maxillary anterior tooth segment in Han Chinese.
