BackgroundNonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy(NAION)is a common retinal ischemic lesions, often illness emergency,a serious threat to the patient's visual function, involving binoculus simultaneously or successively.Optic atrophy will occur after 1~2 months. So far,the cause of NAION is still not clear. The blood supply deficiency of the short posterior cilliary arteries is considered to be the mainly cause of the ischemic optic neuropathy and subsequent optic atrophy. In recent years, the incidence of NAION is on the rise,as well as the occurrence and development of NAION risk factors have a deeper understanding, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, perfusion pressure, intraocular pressure, drugs, etc. There is an important meaning for the early prevention of NAION through exploring it's risk factors.ObjectiveTo explore the relationship between carotid artery atherosclerosis(CAA)plaque and nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy(NAION),seeking methods for clinical prevention and treatment of AION.Method72 cases(83 eyes)with NAION who presented to Eye Hospital of Xinxiang Medical University between December 2013 and January 2016 were selected as the research object and were regarded as observation group, and the health check-up 81 cases were regarded as control group. The two groups were given the carotid artery color Doppler ultrasound examination. To compare the two groups of carotid atherosclerotic plaque detection rate and the stenosis degree of interal carotid arteries.ResultThe detection rate of CAA plaque was 55.5%(40/72)in observation group, which was higher than that in control group?32.1%(26/81)?,and there was significant difference(c2=8.550,P<0.05).Mild stenosis had 42 cases, moderate stenosis had 22 cases, severe stenosis had 8 cases in case group, and 65,14,2 case respectively in control group. There was significant difference in stenosis degree of interial carotid arteries between two groups(c2=9.826,P<0.05).ConclusionThe occurrence of nonarteritic AION is closely related to the existence and degree of CAA.Color Doppler ultrasonography is the most simple and effective method to monitor CAA plaque, which has clinical significance in prevention and treatment of nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy.
