Background:College period is the critical stage for teenagers' growth and development. Bad dietary habit and pattern in this period will increase the morbidity of chronic diseases in their adulthood. According to the comparison between China's monitoring result of chronic diseasesin 2010 and the nationwide nutrition survey result in 2002, it is found that Chinese adults'morbidity of chronic metabolic diseases such as overweight, obesity and high blood pressure significantly ascends. Correspondingly, health problems caused by overweight, obesity, high blood pressure and other chronic metabolic diseases are increasingly severe as well.Purpose:This research is aimed at learning about the characteristics of dietary frequency of college freshmen from a university in Hefei and probing into the correlation between college freshmen's frequency of taking in various foods and their overweight/obesity, central obesity, normal-high blood pressure/high blood pressure, osteopenia/osteoporosis. And the objective is to provide reference for college freshmen's diet and offer a scientific basis for their health, nutrition and hygiene education.Objects:The respondents of this research are freshmen from a university in Hefei City, Anhui Province. After the removal of invalid questionnaires, a total of 1,319 respondents composed of 511 male students and 808 female students are finally incorporated into the research through cluster sampling. Methods:This research selects freshmen from a university in Anhui Province as respondents and invites personnel who have received professional training to carry out one-to-one questionnaire survey among respondents. The questionnaire is inclusive of respondents'basic information and their frequency of taking in various foods. Basic information covers their physical examination data, general conditions, and health-related behaviors. Physical examination data is composed of height, weight, blood pressure and other relevant data. SPSS 18.0 software is used for the analysis. The correlation betweendietary frequency and overweight/obesity, high blood pressure/normal-high blood pressure, osteopenia/osteoporosis is tested by ?2 with multi-factor logisticregression analysis method. After relevant confounding factors are corrected, the correlation between dietary frequency and relevant chronic diseases (overweight/obesity, central obesity, normal-high blood pressure/high blood pressure, osteopenia/osteoporosis) is analyzed.Findings:The survey respondents include 511 male students and 808 female students at the age from 17 to 25. College freshmen's frequency of taking in various foods has different influences on their overweight/obesity as well as their high blood pressure/normal-high blood pressure. According to the observation results of high blood pressure (normal-high blood pressure) and normal groups' frequency of taking in various foods, there is significant difference (P<0.05) between them in terms of taking in fresh vegetables and fruits, beef and mutton, as well as carbonated beverage. It is found from overweight/obesity and normal-weight groups' frequency of taking in various foods, there is significant difference (P<0.05) between those freshmen in terms of dairy products and carbonated beverage. While the findings towards the dietary frequency between osteopenia/osteoporosis and normal group show the obvious difference (P<0.05) among freshmen in terms of drinking carbonated beverage. Osteopenia/osteoporosis college freshmen prefer carbonated beverage. The survey shows that there is significant correlation (P<0.01) between high blood pressure group (normal-high blood pressure) and overweight/obesity group, and it is also highly correlated (P<0.01) between overweight/obesity group and osteopenia/osteoporosis group. Conclusions:College freshmen's frequency of taking in various foods has influence on their blood pressure, obesity as well as the osteoporosis. Taking in beef and mutton would increase college freshmen's morbidity of high blood pressure and normal-high blood pressure, while the carbonated beverage tends to result in overweight/obesity and osteopenia/osteoporosis.No matter confounding factors are adjusted or not, there is strong correlation between overweight/obesity/central obesity and high blood pressure. In other words, overweight/obesity is an important dangerous factor of high blood pressure. The survey shows that college students with overweight/obesity are more likely to suffer from high blood pressure. Moreover, overweight/obesity is also a dangerous factor leading to osteopenia/osteoporosis, which means the morbidity will increase. Prior to the adjustment of confounding factors, there is strong correlation between overweight/obesity and osteopenia/osteoporosis. But after the adjustment, the research has not found the correlation between overweight/obesity and osteopenia/osteoporosis, which may be related to the adjusted confounding factors (gender, age, physical activity and family income).
