Objectives To describe the General health status of the rural elderly, and to further explore the mental health status of the empty nest elderly in rural area of China.Methods In order to study the rural elderly people's body health, the old people from a town in Anhui Dangtu County were selected as the research subject, and the data of social demographic, lifestyle, physical examination were collected. The data of general situation, physical examination, physical exercise, diet, blood glucose and blood routine situation of the research objects were analyzed. For the different demographic characteristics of BMI, blood pressure, body symptoms, the types of illness, smoking, drinking, anemia, triglyceride, total cholesterol and electrocardiogram examination result, comparison between the groups were tested with ?2 test to process inferential statistical analysis.Meta Analysis was designed to evaluate the mental health status of the empty nest elderly in our country. The relevant literatures were identified through a search of electronic databases, up to October 2014. All the statistical tests for meta analysis were conducted using Stata 9.0.Results1.Research on the body health of the rural elderly people. The subjects of 2292 aged 60 and over 60 years old of the rural elderly were investigated. The results show that dizziness is complained by most people (37.0%), next is blurred vision (12.7%) and the third is headache (9.1%). The top three diseases of the past are High blood pressure, Diabetes and Coronary heart disease. In the survey of lifestyle,99.3% of the elderly never took any exercise. ?2 test show that the BMI, the complained number of physical symptoms, the fasting plasma glucose values, the prevalence of anemia, the values of triglyceride and total cholesterol, the rate of abnormal electrocardiogram of the older women are higher than the older men. The difference has statistically significance. The smoking and drinking frequency of the older men are higher than the older women and the difference is also statistically significant.2.The meta analysis of the elderly' mental health. The results show that comparing with the domestic general population in 2006, the empty nest elderly' four latitude of mental health in somatization, depression, anxiety and fear are significantly worse. Comparing with the no-empty nest elderly, the empty nest elderly' five latitude of mental health in interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, fear and paranoid are obviously lower. The female empty-nesters' five latitude in force, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety and fear are obviously worse than the male empty-nesters.Conclusions Rural elderly healthy lifestyle needs to be improved, physical health status of the rural elderly women is not optimistic; the mental health status of the empty nesters is significantly lower than the general population, the mental health ststus of women empty nesters significantly inferior to men empty nesters...
