Castanopsis carlesii community is one of the important formations in subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest in our country, which have high scientific values. In this paper, the Castanopsis carlesii natural secondary forest community in the north hilly of Fujian. The data was collected by setting large sample plot and then dividing them into equal adjacent lattice to conduct survey. At the same time, the quantitative ecology method was applied to analyze the basic features of the Castanopsis carlesii community and the method of point pattern analysis,V-Hegyi competition index and total mixed index were used to analyzed the space structure characteristics of the dominant populations in this community. In order to recovery and development of the natural forest community to provide theoretical guidance. The main results in this paper were followed:1)The basic characteristics of Castanopsis carlesii natural secondary forest community were as follows:Evergreen broad-leaves species had absolutely dominant in this community and most of the species were belonging to Fagaceae and Theaceae;the woody-layer of this community could be divided into four layers and Castanopsis carlesii population had big proportion in each layer;the woody layer diameter structure was in reverse-J style and there were sufficient young trees of the dominant species which reflected that Castanopsis carlesii natural secondary forest community was in the stage of and would be in a dynamic growth;Castanopsis carlesii natural secondary forest community was a mono-dominant community and Castanopsis carlesii was the constructive species.2)The spatial distribution pattern of Castanopsis carlesii natural secondary forest community was aggregation distribution in the spatial scales of less than 34 m and it changed form random distribution to uniform distribution in the rest spacial scales, the aggregation degree had an reverse relation with spatial scale;the spatial distribution pattern of the dominant populations in different growth stage were all in aggregation distribution in the spatial scales of less than 2m and had reach the aggregation peak in this spacial scale, which deduced that the dominant species were in block gathering in small spatial scale.3)The interspecies relationship between the dominant species of Castanopsis carlesii,Schima superba,Cyclobalanopsis glauca,Cunninghamia lanceolata were that the interspecies relationship between Castanopsis carlesii and Schima superba had no relationship,Schima superba and Cunninghamia lanceolata had positive association, the others inerspecies relationships were not stable.4)The intraspecific competition among Castanopsis carlesii and Schima superb and Zelkova schneideriana multually which had strong interspecific competition were also intense,in the contrary, the intraspecific competition among Alniphyllum fortunei and Cyclobalanopsis glauca and Castanopsis sclerophylla and Machilus thunbergii and Adinandra millettii and Phoebe bournei multually which had weak interspecific were also slight.5)The average mingling of the Castanopsis carlesii population was 0.6192 which was lower the average mingling of this whole community;the species diameter had a negative correlation with the number of species in different diameter level and species diameter had positive correlation with mingling which could inferred that the number of species had negative correlation with mingling;the mingling relation in the community was that:average mingling of the dominant population<average mingling of the community<average mingling of the non-dominant population.
