Agricultural system is a large and complex one.Agricultural problem has significantly spatial-temporal characteristics and needs to be recognized and addressed in a spatio-temporal perspective.Given the existing agricultural information management system,the proposed Agriculture geo-information Management System(AgMS)is designed for collecting,storing,manipulating,analyzing and disseminating agriculture geo-information concerning with the crop growth,and provides accurate agriculture geo-information and decision support service for policy makers and agrotechnicians.With the Geographic Information System(GIS)technologies and software engineering techniques,the AgMS achieves managing agriculture geo-data,e.g.,crop data,meteorological data,soil data,and crop production management data,and providing the basic functions for supporting spatial decision making in agriculture.This study is elaborated from management of agriculture geo-information,the analysis of geo-information and the achievement of system integration and development,which are shown as below.Management of agriculture geo-data.Based on the previous knowledge of GIS and spatial database,a well-structured agriculture geo-database,capable for storing rich and high quality data,is built.And the database is in conformity with a well standard and can be extended.Moreover,the data management also provides the basic functions for extracting inherent information of the data,using straight data visualization techniques,e.g.,table views and map views,for decision makers.Analysis of agriculture geo-information.Meteorological factors and soil factors with significant spatial characteristics,builds the spatial distribution of productions with different crop varieties,and forms the spatial patterns of cultivation.In this paper,we describe the method for building regional crop model by three different ideas,manipulating data,manipulating model and manipulating application.With the regional crop model,AgMS improves the functions for managing,simulating and forecasting accurate information for multi-scale application from field to region.Implementation of AgMS.Considering the software requirements of AgMS,we developed the AgMS with ESRI ArcGIS 10.3 Software Development Kit(SDK),ArcSDE and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 database management system(DBMS),using C#and Python programming language.All the data analysis modules are developed as plug-ins with Python.This plug-in architecture integrates the well-developed GIS platform and the flexible scripting language together.Coinciding with this architecture,AgMS is capable for manipulating big spatial data and complex analysis modules.The stable operation and the well application of AgMS show that the proposed design and implementation of AgMS meet the software engineering specifications and the software requirements for agriculture geo-information management.The structure and the logic of AgMS are clear and easy to use.Moreover,AgMS provides the majority of functions for managing and analyzing agriculture geo-information,and reveals the useful spatial information for decision makes.
