Kaempferia parviflora Wall,ex Baker?K.parviflora?has been used as an important traditional folk medicine for a long time in Thailand,and has a broad market in Japan as health support product.However,field cultivation in Japan is difficult and has many problems.As one of the solutions,hydroponics in plant factory is suggested in our laboratory.In this study,K.parviflora tissue culture plantlets were grown hydroponically in OAT House A-prescription culture solution in a container-type plant factory located at the experimental field of Faculty of Applied Biological Science,Gifu University,Japan.In order to establish some effective hydroponics in a plant factory with artificial light,the effects of light intensity(PPFD 72?molm-2s-1,115?molm-2s-1 and 181?molm-2s-1),planting density?22.9 plants/m2 in 12-hole and 30.4 plants/m2 in 16-hole planting panel?,adding compound micronutrients?Fertilizer No.5?,as well as treatments of cheesecloth shading and leaf pruning on top fresh weight?TFW?,root fresh weight?RFW?,tiller number?TN?,plant height?PH?,root dry weight?RDW?and tuber dry weight?TDW?were examined.The correlations between yield?TDW?and other agronomic traits were also examined.The results are following:1.Except the order of PH is 72?mol>115?mol>181?mol,all the orders of TFW,RFW,TN,RDW and TDW is 72?mol<115?mol<181?mol.Strong irradiation can promote both the growth of K.parviflora and tuber thickening.2.With the increase of the planting time,the differences of TFW,RFW,TN,PH,RDW and TDW between 12 Holes and 16 Holes become smaller.Reasonable increase of planting density would not have adverse effect on the growth and development of K.parviflora,when the other cultivation condtionis is appropriate.3.Adding compound micronutrients hinders the increase of PH and RDW,while leaf treatments of cheesecloth shading and leaf pruning have less effect on promoting tuber thickening.4.The experiments of light intensity,planting density,adding compound micronutrients and leaf pruning show that TFW,root and TN have a strong correlation with yield.The correlation coefficients at 7 MAP are all more than 0.80.The experiment of leaf pruning shows that TFW and TN have a strong correlation with yield;with the increase of planting time,the correlation of root and yield become stronger,but the correlation coefficient is less than 0.80.PH has the weakest correlation with yield.5.Considering the running cost of plant factory with artificial light,especially the power consumption,light intensity 11?molm-2s-1 and 16-hole planting panel should be used in practical production.
