This study investigated the effects of maternal undernutrition during late pregnancy on lipid metabolism, antioxidant capacity and acute phase protein synthesis in the liver of Mongolia sheep.24 healthy Mongolia ewes with 2-3 parities were tested, which had similar live weight, moderate body condition and were mated with estrus synchronization.6 ewes were slaughtered at 90 d of gestation, which were close to the average weight. The remaining ewes were allocated randomly to three group with different nutrition level:Control Group(CG),Restricted Group2(RG2,0.33 MJME·kgw-0.75·d-1),Restricted Group1(0.175 MJME·kgw-0.75·d-1),at the 140 d of gestation, all the remaining ewes were slaughtered as before. The results indicated:1.With the nutrition level decreasing during late pregnancy, maternal net body weight(P<0.01),liver weight(P<0.05)and protein content(P<0.05)of liver in RG1 and RG2 groups was significantly lower than those of CG group;Dry matter and fat content of maternal liver in RG1 was greatly higher than those of CG and RG2 groups(P<0.01),and fat content of maternal liver in RG2 group was significantly lower than that of CG group(P<0.01).Ash content in maternal liver was gradually decreased, while ash content in maternal liver of three groups showed no significant difference.NO and NOS of maternal liver in RG1 group was significantly higher than those of CG group(P<0.05).CHE and AKP activity of maternal liver in CG group was greatly higher than those of RG1 group(P<0.05.2.With the nutrition level decreasing during late pregnancy,TG concentration of maternal liver in RG1 group was significantly higher than that of CG and RG2 group(P<0.01);TC concentration of maternal liver in RGi group compared with CG and RG2 group was significantly lower(P<0.01),while TC concentration of maternal liver in CG and RG2 groups showed no significant difference.NEFA concentration of maternal serum in RG2 and RG1 groups was greatly higher than that of CG group(P<0.01).BHBA concentration of maternal serum in RG1 group was significantly higher than that of RG2 and CG groups(P<0.01).LPL and HL activity of maternal liver in RG1 group was significantly lower than those of CG group(P<0.01),and LPL(P<0.01)and HL(P<0.05)activity of maternal liver in RG2 was significantly lower than those of CG group.3.With the nutrition level decreasing during late pregnancy,T-AOC,SOD activity,GSH-PX activity, and MDA content of maternal liver was gradually raised, and T-AOC(P<0.05),SOD activity(P<0.01),GSH-PX activity(P<0.01)and MDA content(P<0.01)of maternal liver of RG1 group was significantly higher than those of CG and RG2 groups.4.With the nutrition level decreasing during late pregnancy,HPT content and CP content of maternal liver was gradually raised, while they showed no significant difference in three groups;CRP content of maternal liver in RG1 group was significantly decreased compared with CG group(P<0.05),and CRP content of maternal liver in RG2 group had no significant difference with CG group or RG1 group;HPT and CP content of maternal serum in CG group was significantly higher than those of RG2 and RG1 group(P<0.05).CRP content of maternal serum in three groups showed no significant difference, but CRP content of maternal serum in RG2 group was between CG group and RG1 group. From the above results,we can come to conclusion that maternal body mobilized body fat in RG1 group during late pregnancy, which brought about fatty liver, pregnancy toxemia, oxidative stress reaction, liver dysfunction and the ability of hepatocytes to synthesize acute phase protein changing.Although maternal body mobilized body fat in RG2 group, which didn't exceed the range of adaptive regulation of liver, there was no fatty liver, toxemia of pregnancy and significant liver dysfunction.
