Sucking piglets are prone to diarrhea due to incomplete immune system, defective digestive system and environmental pressure.Diarrhea has an impact on growth performance and immune system of piglets. Many kinds of probiotics were often used as ideal alternatives for antibiotics in preventing and treating diarrheal piglets. But effects of probiotics on growth performance, diarrhea rate and blood indices of piglets still require further research. The purpose of this paper was to study the influence of drenching with different doses of Enterococcus faecalis to diarrheal and non-diarrheal piglets on daily gain and blood indices of piglets. The experiment was divided into two parts:1.Routine and biochemical blood indices of diarrheal piglets Newborn piglets from 48 litters with similar parity, delivery date and litter size were selected.Once a piglet was found diarrheal, the piglet and a non-diarrheal piglet of same gender from the same litter were selected immediately to sample blood and feces. The sampling was not stopped until 20 pairs of piglets from 20 litters were collected. All the piglets left in the 20 litters were randomly allocated into five groups and were fed orally with 1mL doubled-distilled water(control group,C),Enterococcus faecalis 2.5×108 CFU/mL(treatment 1,T1),Enterococcus faecalis 5 x 108 CFU/mL(treatment 2,T2),Enterococcus faecalis 1×109 CFU/mL(treatment 3,T3),Enterococcus faecalis 2×109 CFU/mL(treatment 4,T4),respectively.It was repeated at 0 d,3 d,6 d.At the age of 20 days,a piglet had ever had diarrhea and another piglet of the same sex never occurred diarrhea in the same litter were chosen to sample blood and feces.Routine and biochemical blood indices of diarrheal piglets were studied. The results showed that the content of serumal total protein(TP)and globulin(GLO)of diarrheal piglets were higher significantly than those in the non-diarrheal group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference between routine blood indices in the diarrheal piglets and non-diarrheal piglets.2.Effect of drenching with Enterococcus faecalis on growth performance and blood indices of pigletsThe influence of drenching with Enterococcus faecalis on average daily gain, diarrhea rate, routine and biochemical blood indices were analyzed. The results showed that average daily gain(ADG)of piglets drenched with high concentration of probiotics in the T3 and T4 increased significantly than that of those drenched with double distilled water in the control group(P<0.01)and and those drenched with low concentration of probiotics in T1 group(P<0.01).ADG of piglets drenched with high concentration of probiotics in T4 group was higher than that of those in T1,T2 and T3(P<0.01).ADG of piglets fed with low concentration of probiotics in T1 and T2 group did not show significant difference with that of those fed with double distilled water in the control group(P>0.05).Diarrhea ratio of piglets drenched with different doses of Enterococcus faecalis significantly decreased than that of those drenched with distilled water(P<0.05),and there was no difference between different treatment groups.Drenching with probiotics significantly influenced serumal GLO and Albumin/Globulin(A/G)of the piglets(P<0.05).The content of GLO in T4 group was higher than that in the C group and the other treatment groups(P<0.05).The content of GLO in the blood of diarrheal piglets were lower significantly than those in the non-diarrheal group(P<0.05).The A/G in T4 and T1 was significantly lower than that of those in C group(P<0.05).The content of BUN in treatment groups tended to be lower than that in C group(P<0.1).Diarrhea significantly influenced content of GLO and A/G in the blood of piglets(P<0.05).There was no significant effect of Enterococcus faecalis on routine blood indices of piglets.
