The whole topographic feature of our country is complex and diverse. The area of mountains is very large, accounting for 69% of our country's land area. There are millions of people living in this area. This area have rich farmland and mineral resources. The arable land accounts for 23.8% of our country's total arable land. The slope of hillside arable is 6 angle to 25 angle. The main mountain agricultural machine is tiller, walking tractor and small four-wheel low land clearance tractor. The amount of hillside tractor is very small. But the tiller has many shortcomings, such as low power, low operating efficiency and intensive labor. Its ability to resist lateral tilting and longitudinal tilting is also poor. So the tiller is not enough to meet the needs of farmers in mountainous areas. The ordinary tractor is hard to manipulate, consumes more power, has low efficiency and its bottom body is easy to overturn. In this paper, a new mountain tractor is researched for the requirements of farmers, which based on theoretical knowledge of Tractor, mechanical design, mechanical principles, hydraulic transmission, other disciplines, the application of MATLAB, AutoCAD, UG NX8.0, ANSYS and other modern engineering design theory and software. The main design results are as follows:(1) Combined with the terrain characteristics and the development of hillside tractor, we determine the overall structure of hillside tractor and the main technical parameters. We determine the altitude difference adjustment system between the left and right side of tire, which drived by hydraulic system.(2)We complete the design of drive system. First, we complete the intermediate gearbox design. Second, we complete the selection of central drive gear and the design of central transmission case. Third, we finish the design of drive reducer.(3) We calculate and study the lateral stability and longitudinal stability of hillside tractor. The stability of hillside tractor is mainly reflected in the performance against lateral tilting. The maximum lateral inclination of the hillside tractor is 32 angles. So 404P type hillside tractor can meet the needs of most slope work.(4) We design a different steering mode compared with ordinary tractor. This tractor uses articulated steering mode between middle frame and rear frame. The steering cylinders are arranged in the bottom of the middle frame and the rear frame. We design the structure of tight twist point and loose twist point. We determine the steering cylinder arrangement positon.(5) We use ANSYS Workbench platform to analyze the statics of central transmission case and rear frame in the stationary. The results show that:the strength and stiffness of the two parts satisfy the requirements. So the central transmission case and rear frame are designed reasonable.
