Garlic is an important economic crop of foreign exchange, in our country. However, the mechanization technology of garlic harvesting is the biggest bottleneck of the development of the garlic planting industry. With the goal of lower labor intensity for garlic farmers, a new garlic harvester was developed, and the performance of the prototype was tested. The main research contents and conclusions are as follows.1. The harvest garlic physical characteristics were studied. The results of plant height are 332.0~ 375.0mm, the results of garlic diameter are 45.48~83.74mm, the results of garlic height are 37.0~ 53.0mm, the results of garlic depth are 25.4~89.7mm and the results of root length are 63.5~97.3mm.2. The overall scheme design of the key components of the garlic harvesting device is carried out. According to the agronomic requirements, the main parameters of the shovel head were determined. Through the comparison and analysis of several configuration modes, determined the choice of rear-mounted. Through the analysis and comparison of several different types of shovel head, the airfoil plane blade was chosen as the head of the digging shovel, finally.3. The mechanical analysis of the key components of garlic harvester is carried out by using the modern design method. And using Pro/E and ANSYS on the key components of garlic harvester.4. The different installation angles of the two types of flat shovel were studied. The results showed that the total working resistance of the airfoil plane digging shovel is about 806N. When the installation angle is 12.5 degrees, the operation effect of the digging shovel is better than that of the zero degree installation angle. The working resistance of the soil was increased with the increase of the angle of installation when the soil properties. The digging depth and the working speed were the same. Under the same installation angle, the working resistance of the airfoil plane is reduced by 5.1~6.4%.
