Studies On Establishment Of Soil Series In Chinese Soil Taxonomy In Southern Guangxi Autonomous Region

Soil series, the lowest category unit of Chinese soil taxonomy, is soil collections with the same parent material, landscape, soil layers, and the similar attributes. The establishment of soil series can be more accurate explanation of the soil types, soil series associate with the actual production, and provide important basic data for agricultural production, land evaluation, land use planning and ecological environment construction.According to keys to Chinese Soil Taxonomy(3rd edition) and Criteria for establishment of soil family and soil series in Chinese soil taxonomy, thirty-three representative soil pedons were detailed investigated, described, sampled and soil physical and chemical properties including particle composition, CEC, free iron, water-soluble sulfate,exchangeable base and acidity were analyzed in the southern Guangxi autonomous region..The results indicated as follows:The studied thirty-three soil pedons involved eleven diagnostic surface horizons,including Anthrostagnic epipedon, Hydragric horizon, Ochric epipedon, Umbric epipedon,Cambic horizon, Argic horizon, LAC-ferric horizon, Salic horizon, Plinthic horizon,Sulfuric horizon and Albic horizon, and seven diagnostic characteristics, including Gleyic features, Redoxic features, Soil moisture regimes, Soil temperature regimes, Ferric property,Alic property and Humic property.The studied thirty-three soil pedons were classified into five Orders, including Anthrosols, Ferralosols, Argosols, Ferrosols and Gleyosols, six Suborders, including Stagnic Anthrosols, Udic Ferralosols, Stagnic Gleyosols, Orthic Gleyosols, Udic Ferrosols and Udic Cambosols, and continuously classified into ten Groups and eighteen Subgroups.The soil family was established according to soil texture, temperature and mineral composition in control layer, and twenty nine soil families were establelished. Soil createria Taking the depth and thickness of characteristic horizon, soil texture in surfacelayer, soluable salt content, rock fragments or concretion or intrusions contents and other soil properties as criteria, thirty soil series were established for 29 soil families. Soil series was described detaliedly from the distribution and environmental conditions, soil characteristics and range, morphological characteristics of representative soil pedon,reviews of utilization performanceThe establishment of soil series in southern Guangxi autonomous region, based on criteria with definite morphological characteristics and physicochemical properties, have the characteristics of standardized, quantitative, convenient international communication and the strong practicability, and provides a theoretical basis and practical experience for further establishment of soil series in Guangxi autonomous region.
