At present, the sugarcane production in china is featured by the thousands of households based producing system, small pieces of farmland, narrowed row space, and so on. So, the big sugarcane harvesters are not suitable in china at present. This research is aimed at developing a sort of sugarcane harvester which has the functions of topping, erecting, base-cutting, feeding, delivering, chopping, dirt extracting, elevating, and loading, and is suitable for china's sugarcane producing environment.According to the growing characteristic and the request harvesting process of the sugarcane, the whole project of the harvester, the mechanical structure, and the key parts were designed. According to the desired functions of the harvester, the all hydraulic control system was developed, and was optimized based on the harvesting test and the analysis of the existing problems of the hydraulic control system used in the harvesters ever developed. Also the electric control system was designed and optimized on the basis of the control requirement of the harvester and the PLC technology. After a series harvesting tests, the prototype harvester developed in this research was modified.The tests show that the Model 4GZQ-120 sugarcane combine harvester has reached the desired result, and has the characters of compact structure, being suitable for small pieces and narrow row space sugarcane fields. The tested results are as:stubble damage rate 14%, total lost rate 2%, impurity content 7%, pure productivity 19t/h, and fuel consumption rate 1.5L/t.
