Astragalus polysaccharides and Lucidum polysaccharides could enhance immune function as the active components of Astragalus and Lucidum, respectively. The oral liquid of Astragalus and Lucidum polysaccharides containing Astragalus polysaccharides and Lucidum polysaccharides is a new product of a biotechnology company. The effects of the oral liquid of Astragalus and Lucidum polysaccharides on immunological function and Newcastle Disease (ND) vaccine in normal and immunosuppression chickens were studied in this paper, in order to explore the immunopotentiation of it and provide experimental evidence for its application in clinical veterinary as a new-type immunopotentiatorStudy of the oral liquid of Astragalus and Lucidum polysaccharides on immunological function in chicken as follows. One hundred and eighty broilers at the age of 7-day-old were randomly divided into 9 groups. Group 1 to 3 were gavaged with the oral liquid of Astragalus and Lucidum polysaccharides at the dose of 10,5 and 1 mL/kg for continuous five days respectively. Group 4 to 7 were injected intramuscularly with cyclophosphamide (CY) at the dose of 80 mg/kg for three days, and group 4 to 6 were respectively gavaged with the test substance at the dose of 10,5 and 1 mL/kg for continuous five days at the same time. Group 8 was gavaged with the positive at the dose of 1 mL/kg for continuous five days, and group 9 was normal saline as negative control. The indexes of immune organs, proliferation of spleen cells and IL-2 in serum were determined at the age of 12,17 and 22 day old. Results showed that the effects of the oral liquid of Astragalus and Lucidum polysaccharides on proliferation of spleen cells at high, middle or low test substance groups were significantly higher than those of saline group and immunosuppression groups at the age of 12,17 and 22 day old (P?0.05). At the age of 22-day-old, the IL-2 level in serum of the oral liquid of Astragalus and Lucidum polysaccharides at high, middle or low dose were significantly higher than those of saline group and immunosuppression groups (P?0.05). The indexes of thymus and bursa of Fabricius of the oral liquid at middle dose were significantly higher than those of saline group and immunosuppression groups (P?0.05). The test substance could significantly promote immunological function in chicken especially in the immunosuppression induced by cyclophosphamide.Study of the oral liquid of Astragalus and Lucidum polysaccharides on immunity of ND vaccine in chicken as below. One hundred and eighty broilers at the age of 14-day-old were randomly divided into 9 groups and inoculated with ND vaccine. The group 1 to 9 were designed as above. The indexes of immune organs, proliferation of spleen cells, IL-2 in serum and ND antibody level determined by hemagglutination-inhibition (HI) test were analyzed on the 7th,14th,21st and 28th day after vaccination. Results showed that the proliferation of spleen cells of all the test substance groups were significantly higher than that in saline group at four time points after vaccination (P?0.05). The IL-2 levels in serum of three oral liquid groups were significantly higher than that in saline group on the 21st day after vaccination (P?0.05). The antibody titers of ND in three test substance groups were higher than that in vaccine control on the 7th day after vaccination (P<0.05), and there was the same duration of persistence of antibodies with saline group. The oral liquid of Astragalus and Lucidum polysaccharides could promote the production of antibody to ND vaccine in chickens. In conclusion, the oral liquid of Astragalus and Lucidum polysaccharides could enhance the immunological function and the immunization of ND vaccine in chickens, implying the product could be used as a new-type immunopotentiator.
