With the number of vehicle becomes larger,the high living standards and the low speed of traffic road construction,the traffic congestion is increasing.Because the road resources of the central city are limited,it's difficult to build a new road,or to expand the road.Making full use of existing urban road resources,such as reducing the width of the vehicle lane,has become an effective measure for traffic managers and related field researchers.As a key node of urban road network,the capacity of intersection restricts the traffic efficiency of a whole road network.Reasonable lane width and full use of road resources can not only improve the operational efficiency of urban road,but also provide a possibility to further optimize the cross-sectional design of the road.The paper takes the signalized intersections of arteries in Beijing as a research object.It aims to study the correlation between lane width and utilization rate of road resources,lane width and traffic safety,and lane width and driving experience.The Bolankerf model is revised based on current traffic situation in Beijing.By analyzing the traffic survey data at lots of intersections,this paper establishes the relationship model between lane width and saturated flow rate.A non-linear programming theory and a statistical theory are used to calibrate the model parameters.Based on the theory of fluid mechanics,this paper analyzes the influence of traffic lane width on traffic flow at intersections,and provides the basic theory for studying the relationship between lane width and saturated flow rate at signalized intersections.At the same time,the definition and calculation methods of resource utilization rate for an unit road are given.Then the Bolankerf model is modified by the vehicle data collected by videos and a multi-function road test detector A-BOX.Making use of an empirical formula,recommended values of lane width for different scenarios are given.According to analyze the traffic accident data at intersections of Chaoyang District and the survey data of driving experience,the relationships between lane width and traffic safety,and lane width and driving experience are obtained.Finally,using Delphi method,a rank of factors to determine lane width is given.By considering various factors,some recommended values of lane width are given,which provides a reference for planners and designers,and shows the foundation for the revision work of lane width design standards.
