As the development trend of underwater weapons is miniaturization, therefore underwater carrying equipments and divers gained much destructive force. It brings threats to offshore wells, ports, shore facilities and military establishment. The research on underwater sonar detection of small targets attracts attention from many countries.Meanwhile, the research projects related to this area become more and more detail. The study of this article is based on experiment.Divers with SCUBA and divers with ADS are analyzed.Conduct the experiments of scattering target strength and motion azimuth estimation about divers by single vector hydrophone. The contents of this paper include the following aspects:First, according to the different characteristics of underwater divers and their equipments, select different models to do simulation analysis of the scattering target strength. And based on different modeling, select some suitable physical models for the experiment of scattering tests and measuring target strength.Second, based on the different major source of divers with SCUBA and divers with ADS.Select the breathing cylinders in SCUBA equipments and the helmet in the ADS equipment. Both of them are used to conduct scattering experiments. In these experiments, measured two different equipments in three different frequency points,in addition, analyzed the reasons for the changes of target echo wave, give the calculation results of intention goal.Third, study the different principles of azimuth estimation about drivers which are based on the vector signal processing, use different measurement methods to do some motion vector signal DOA estimation. This paper aims to study the acoustic characteristics of underwater divers which supported for development of detection SONAR of divers in future.
