The study object of the paper is Santunying City which served as headquarter of Ji Zhen in Ming Dynasty.Through analysis of documents, images, landform and field work, the paper partly rebuild the process of its spatial change since its establishment. In the first year of Yongle(1403),three centeniers who belonged to Zhongyi zhongwei led troops to begin to reclaim the land in Santunying basin,21 years later(1423),Chen Jingxian built a walled city there and named it Santunying. In the 9th year of Zhengtong,General Sun Jie moved from Shizigu to Santunying to inspect the Duoyan Mongolian tribes when they were offering tributes to the Chinese emperor. In the 7th year of Jingtai(1456),station troops of Shiziyu were also moved to Santunying and finally in 2nd year of Tianshun(1458),General Hu Yong spanned the Santunying fortress. The construction led by Hu Yong established the basic layout of Santunying city.Later in the 3rd year of Wanli(1475),General Qi Jiguang removed the south wall of the city and built new ones to include the southern barracks.During the following 400 more years, such layout changed just a little. Before the end of World War II,local communists' government launched movement to reduce the rent and the interest and during that period, the walls and temples of Santunying city was badly damaged or transformed into houses.During later political events the public relics of Santunying city were almost swiped away. After the rammed earth layer were eradiated to make way for the village house construction, the relics of Ming Dynasty military fortress were totally eliminated and only residential areas survived. After the 80 s of last century, the Jinxi Steel Factory was placed in the east of the city by Qianxi County government, the factory continues to span however the development of the Santunying Town is much slower. The Santunying city reached its peak during the period of Qi Jiguang, and fell around the establishment of People's Republic of China. Its prosperity is due to the special relationship between Ming Government and Duoyan Mongolian tribes which is by coincidence. After the management of Qi Jiguang,it maintained the spatial layout for about 400 years. However, after its collapsing, the settlement had not encountered any coincidence to recover its influence power. Now Santunying is just a big town which is hardly be called a city.
