Research On Environmental Friendly Disposal Methods Of Toxic And Hazardous Substances During Shipbreaking Process

Shipbreaking as the end of a ship ’s life cycle plays an important and indispensable role in the modern shipbuilding industry.With the international society pays more attention to the protection of the natural environment,the ship dismantling industry has become increasingly prominent contradiction between environmental pollution problems,the scientific community has been paid more and more attention on environmental friendly ship dismantling process.However,the long-term marginalization of shipbreaking industry has resulted in low technical co ntent in the industry and the problem of environmental protection is not enough.These practical problems cannot be reversed in one or two days.Therefore,there is an urgent need to provide a complet e set of green shipbreaking program,which is suitable for the shipbreaking yards daily work,and this program should pay attention to several kinds of hazardous materials which are involved in the process of dismantling.Now the researches on shipbreaking are mainly focused on the study of laws and regulations,and the research on engineering practice has always been the vacuum field.In view of above problems,this paper aim at study of the environment friendly technology of shipbreaking and relevant toxic and hazardous substances,combining with the need of practical engineering,and put forward the technology which is suitable for most green ship breaking yard.The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1)Propose a set of green ship dismantling process and propose improvement plan for the key process;(2)Take the "Hong Kong Convention" as a blueprint for ship disma ntling,do some research and inquirement on some clear toxic substances and materials,then provide some advice on the disposal process to make it environment-friendly.(3)Make a discussion about some substances and materials which are not mentioned in the international convention for now because of the hypotoxicity but they are still toxic for human being and environment,then propose the process of dismantling on these materials and propose the advice of further treatment of these materials.(4)Use a LNG vessel as an example to explain how the shipbreaking process work and do some further discussion.
