Study Upon "Five Senses Design" In Urban Reconstruction

With the acceleration of urbanization these days,the old-city renewal is an important field of our research,digging into it,an urban design paradigm taking the supremacy of visual sense is always standing in the mainstream position,however the general application of such paradigm has brought many problems,it will gradually result in the disappearance of urban characteristics,declination of the old city,even unable to sew the urban functional cracks of the existing circumstances to some degree.Therefore,it is,on the road of sustainable development,going to be a must for policy-makers and designers to explore new transformation methods as well as search the approaches to building environment-friendly and sensory urban spaces.In 1950 s,Danish architect Rasmussen,emphasizing that body and the other various senses should be applied to experience the entity and spaces of buildings,the textures,colours,sounds of a city and so on,which can arouse designers' attention on stimulating the partial vitality.Then Pallasmaa together with Zumthor,Kijo Rokkaku and other designers summarized the renewal strategies of “five senses design” by specific projects so as to enhance the benign interaction between people and urban spaces,to improve the surrounding environment and promote sustainable development of a city.This paper takes "five-sense design" of old-city renewal as the penetration point,selects some examples with typical attributes of sensory,experiential renewal as the research object,discusses some strategies of urban reconstruction in terms of "five senses design" and builds renovation-design system based on the harmonious and sustainable development of the city.First of all,this paper makes the layer-by-layer definition of "five senses","fivesense design" and the old-city renewal,which lays the conceptual foundation for the full text.Secondly,it expounds the relevant theory,and then reveals the typical dilemma of urban reconstruction from the interactive relationship between five-sense design and the old-city renewal,which constructs the “five senses” system and establishes the implementation form of "five senses design" in the transformation of the old city.Then,based on the previous analyses,this paper makes depth profile ones of five strategies(such as highlighting light and shadow transformation,optimizing street soundscape,strengthening olfactory memory,tasting the flavor of city and improving material perception),which relying on “five senses design” can build a design framework of oldcity renewal.Finally,it takes Jinan Baihuazhou district renewal as an example,to further explore the theoretical framework built in this paper,meanwhile refers “folk houses,civil lanes,people's livelihood,nations,folkways and among the people” as the renewal elements.Moreover,this paper introduces strategies into the project from visual(sight),acoustic(hearing),olfactory(smell),gustatory(taste),tactile(touch)aspects to demonstrate the application value and practical significance of “five senses design” in urban reconstruction.
