A Study On Sustainable Development Oriented Urban Planning

With the rising problems of resources shortages and environmental pollution,the concept of sustainable development has gradually gained a worldwide attention in 21 st century,becoming an overall frame of actions and programs of urban development.Urban planning is an effective tool th achieve sustainable development.Geneva is one of the cities with the highest density in Europe,and has made a lot of achievements in years of exploration and practice in urban planning.This essay arranges the system of urban planning and the history of Geneva city.Le Plan Directeur Communal is an important guiding document in Switzerland for the construction control of a city.Take Plan Directeur Communal as example,this essay first talks about 8 priorities and sustainable development strategy,then discusses the monitoring and evaluation of the Plan Directeur Communal and the using of model as an evaluation method.Secondly,this essay analysis space strategies on aspects of development,transportation and public area to explore how they help directing the sustainable development of the city.Finally,selecting the road noise reduction planning,sidewalk planning and greenway planning programs as the sample of detailed analysis to futher understand the methods of planning.We could learn a lot from the urban planning in Geneva,Switzerland,whether in its sound legal system,feedback system or public participation.This research can be an important addition to the studies of the urban planning of Central European countries,and I hope it could help bring some useful experiences into the implement of Chinese urban planning.
