The "second impact" caused by the side impact of the car will make the door trim panel directly hurt the passengers,so the study of the door trim panel side impact safety is very important. The evaluation of side impact safety of the door trim panel include the car side impact and the pole side impact, but the domestic research is mainly focused on the former. Therefore, this paper uses the static compression test and finite element quasi-static simulation to evaluate the safety of the door trim panel in the pole side impact. In addition, the finite element impact simulation is also conducted with reference to the test standard, and combined with the existing impact test results,so as to evaluate the safety of the door trim panel in the car side impact. Thus a more comprehensive examine of the door trim panel side impact safety. The main contents of this paper include the following aspects:(1)According to the test standard, the impactors and test fixture required for static compression test are machined, and the static compression points are selected and positioned correctly, finally the static compression test is completed; The finite element model of the door trim panel is established, the main material model of the door trim panel is selected and the related mechanical properties are tested. The load rate of amplification method is selected to accelerate the quasi-static simulation, and the final rate of amplification is 1000 mm/s,finally complete the finite element quasi-static simulation; The parameters are changed on the quasi-static simulation model to complete the finite element impact simulation.(2)Both the static compression test results and the quasi-static simulation results show that the stiffness characteristics and energy absorption of the B1 and C1 points meet the test requirements, but the two stiffness characteristics and technical indexes are very close,so the energy absorption effect is obvious; While B2 Point and C2 point only the stiffness characteristics to meet the test requirements, the energy absorption effect don't reach the target value.(3)Comparing the simulation results of the four static compression points with the experimental results,it can be found that the trend of the two curves are similar, and the peak error of the curve is less than 5% except for the C2 point of 11.5%;In addition, the simulation model can also better reproduce the deformation of the door trim panels in the actual test.It shows that the finite element simulation model has a high accuracy, which lays a good foundation for further improvement.(4)The simulation results show that the safety of the door trim panel in the car side impact meet the standard requirements.Compared with the results of Zheng Wenluo test, the trend of simulation and test curves are similar, but the peak error of point C reaches 32%.On the whole, the impact simulation model has certain accuracy.(5)According to the test and simulation results, the paper puts forward some suggestions to improve the side impact safety performance of the door trim panel from two aspects of material and structure.
