Public markets in old city is significant.Public market is not only the space carrier of traditional culture,but also small and strong local economic lubricant.It is the community meeting room of the city in deep sense.Understanding the market is important for the discussing its development.The eighth market which is spontaneously generated is the largest market in Siming District.The market which witnessed the rapid development and great changes can of Xiamen can remind several generations of collective memory of the public market.This study selected eighth market as the research object,using the methods of literature review and qualitative.This research mainly studied the commercial space and traffic space of the market,combing the process of management system.Suming up the characteristics of the space utilizition and the spatial govermance in the market,finding out the rules and relations to further explore the significance of the traditional market.Based on the empirical study of the eighth market found that the commercial forms mix and its distribution is influenced by the factors of rent and physical environment.Different forms corresponding to different spatial patterns.A variety of spatial patterns in the same industry reflects the different stages of the development.The spatial patterns present two development trends.The traffic location of the eighth market is good.The market lack of parking space.Traffic congestion is mainly due to narrow roads,street vendors and the vehicles parking in the street.There are several departments participating govermance to the eighth market,including urban managementsectors,daily management department as well as ordinary residents and consumers,etc.This govermance includes business management level,the use of space,demonstrating the characteristics of temporary,shadow and marginal.The market management is relatively loose,lack of space use and transportation management.The eighth market as "energetic Street",with public space characteristics,involving multiple interests in space.The main stakeholders related to market are traders,managers and residents.Cooperation and conflict between the three parties.The lack of communication between the three parties,especially the disadvantaged residents and vendors lack of expression way It reflects the complexity and difficulty of spatial governance in the current market,is also a prerequisite for future cooperation between the three parties.Finally,Combine with related cases at home and abroad,propose suggestions on the development of the market,including: the existing store stalls in the market should improve the physical environment and divide according to the format,etc.
