Airfoil design is a very important part in the design of aircraft, and the design results will affect the performance of the aircraft. The parametrizationmethod of airfoil is an important step in airfoil design. An excellent airfoil parameterization method is with high fitting precision, and it can meet the error requirement of accurate fitting. What is more,it is able to use fewer parameters to represent more airfoil profile.According to the wind tunnel model tolerances on the fitting accuracy criteria,if the maximum fitting error of the airfoil parameterization method is less than 7 × 10-4,we say this method is accurate fitting. In this paper,an adaptive B-spline airfoil parameterization method is presented. We choose a cubic B-spline curve to fit the airfoil data.According to the precision requirement and other constraints, the node vector and control points of the B-spline curve can be obtained. When the error is fitted accurately,we get the parameterization results. The first chapter introduces the research background of airfoil parameterization method and the latest research results. The second chapter elaborates the definition and properties of B-spline function and curve. In the third chapter,we give the parametric process of adaptive airfoil parameterization method by B-spline.Then,on the basis of the parametric method,we add normal constraint and update the parameterization method. The fourth chapter shows the results of numerical experiments. The feasibility of the proposed method is verified by parameterizations of the classical airfoils. Finally,we present and summarize the advantages and disadvantages of the presented method.
