Structural symmetry broken is a common and interesting phenomenon in the evolution of product structure.In the original design,the application rules and application methods of structural symmetry and symmetry broken can help the designers to scientifically and discriminatively apply structure symmetry broken to realize the product function,improve the product performance and satisfy the product restrict.In the improved design and optimal design,the different effects between strict symmetry structures and symmetry broken structures,and the change rules of product functions based on the transformation of symmetry degree,can guide the designers to realize product design demands by changing the symmetry degree of product structure.As an important component of mechanical symmetry theory,the research of this article makes important contributions for mechanical symmetry theory.Based on the deep analysis of the existence and research status of structure symmetry broken in other domains,this article conducts the research on mechanical structure symmetry broken theory in the follows:1.The concept system of mechanical structure symmetry broken.Systematically collected and analyzed relevant instances of structure symmetry broken,built the instances database,and studied the broken forms and broken degrees of the four symmetry broken elements,such as symmetry mainbody,symmetry component,symmetry benchmark and symmetry operation,then a complete concept system of mechanical structure symmetry broken was proposed.2.The judgment model for broken degree of mechanical structure symmetry broken.A set of judging algorithm was designed to calculate the broken degree of mechanical structure symmetry broken,and distinguish the structure strict symmetry and structure symmetry broken.Based on the One-way analysis of variance(one-way ANOVA),the proposed algorithm can calculate the broken amount of the symmetry elements in a symmetric structure and get out the broken degree of the structure.The bigger the calculating result is,the higher the structure's broken degree is and the lower the symmetry degree is.3.The design knowledge of structure symmetry broken in mechanical product design.Based on the analysis of a lot of design instances,the systemic research on the transforming forms of product function and performance among the changing of structure's symmetry degree was conducted,and the design knowledge with certain universality and practicability was mined.The proposed deign knowledge can help to expand the application range of mechanical structure symmetry broken.4.The application methods of mechanical structure symmetry broken.By giving some examples,the application rules and application methods of structure symmetry broken design knowledge in mechanical design were studied comparatively,the similarities and differences of their application rules and application ranges were built,and some application methods for structure symmetry broken in realizing common design requirements were proposed.The proposed application methods can guide the practical application of mechanical structure symmetry broken.The research of this article focus on mechanical structure symmetry broken,the existing modes and the judgment method for broken degree of structure symmetry broken were studied,the design knowledge of the evolutional relationships of product function and performance among the changing of structure's symmetry degree was built,and some application methods of mechanical structure symmetry broken were proposed.
