Due to the rapid transformation of network topology and unstable link quality, improving the communication performance is the main problem which VANET needs to solve. This paper takes VANET routing algorithm as the main research objective and proposes a social-properties assistant routing protocol for VANET,which aims at improving the data packet delivery ratio and reducing end-to-end delay.Since the vehicle nodes in VANET are dominated by people who get social properties,VANET essentially should be a special form of Social Networks. Thus, integrating social properties into traditional VANET routing protocol algorithm has become a new research direction.SARP introduces a concept of intersection node and possesses two routing strategies. In the road, nodes carrying the packets execute limited greedy forwarding mechanism to send the packets to the intersection node.In the intersection, the intersection node first decides the set of candidate forwarding node using law of cosines, then utilizes fuzzy inference system evaluate which node in the set is the best intermediate node by considering the following factors:social centrality, similarity, activeness. The proposed algorithm SARP is implemented and analyzed in the internationally accepted simulation platform EXata with GPSR.Routing performance of both algorithms is compared in scenarios where the number and the speed of cars is different. The simulation results show that SARP can provide a higher delivery ratio and a lower end-to-end delay than GPSR routing protocol. The conclusion shows that SARP is better adapted for VANET urban environment VANET.
