With the development of science and computer technology,the time of virtual reality has begun.Owing to the unique features of immersion,imagination and interaction,virtual reality has broad prospects for development in all areas,especially in education.As an effective tool to drive for educational model improvement,virtual laboratory which based on virtual reality technology has been widespread concern both at home and abroad.The application of virtual lab in some large instruments who are expensive,insufficient,and low degree of openness and sharing,is very important.After the discussion of research status of virtual reality,virtual laboratory and surface analysis series instruments in virtual labs,and the comparison with inactive software,this paper establish a development road that meets the current needs of surface analysis instruments in virtual labs,contains SEM,AFM and XPS virtual labs.This paper use 3Ds Max software to build some 3D fine models,such as instruments,samples,supplies,scenes,use Flash and Photoshop software to draw and edit the virtual workstations.All the interactions of 3D objects and 2D workstations are achieved by VSL and interactive scripting of the BB in Virtools.This paper has carried on key research to critical skills.The accomplished virtual labs are supervised and maintained conveniently with network platform.The described virtual labs in this paper possess many advantages of 3D models with high simulation,merging 2D frame technology of virtual workstations,new algorithm for 3D collision detection and picking,distinctive nonlinear interaction,experiment results and records with network management.In the SEM virtual lab,these functions of modeling,choosing and adding if needed for multi-samples with web database are achieved.Otherwise,in the virtual workstation,the features of the conditional choice,continuous adjustable field of vision and real-time preservation of the view are designed,and it is a new breakthrough to realize the fine processing of micro-image.Because of AFM's special structure of probe,the replacement and adjustment steps of probes are added in AFM virtual lab,so that the experiment contents are more complete and the teaching projects are fitter.In addition,it is improved in the details of the virtual laboratory,such as object description,workstation menu optimization.Not only students feel more fluent and convenient when operating,but also the developers feel clearer and reduce workload when they learn from this paper.In the XPS,the key technologies for survey spectrum and multi element selection are investigated.The XPS virtual lab is successfully built that can select elements from the periodic table,graph multi-spectral both survey spectrum and interest elements.In this paper,it overcomes the inferiorities of image processing,sample quantity in SEM virtual lab and AFM virtual lab,even become the precedent of XPS in the field of virtual lab,due to the successful construction of surface analysis series instruments in virtual labs.These series virtual labs have lots of strengths such as high simulation,network operation,complete functions,good interactive experience,etc.They play a role in assisting and promoting for teaching and training.Moreover their building mode and special functions have good reference value for other developers.
