In recent years,with the continuous development of China's road transport undertakings and implementation of the western development strategy,highway construction tasks become more and more onerous in western mountainous area.In the process of highway survey and design and construction,cross-section survey is a basic and essential part.Steep mountainous terrain and large relative elevation greatly increase the difficulty of highway cross section survey,making it is hard for traditional survey means to adapt to mountainous terrain.Therefore,study of new cross-section survey methods is important.Based on the full study of new cross-section survey methods and computational models about mountainous highway with steep terrain,this paper develops a cross-section survey information system for high grade highway in mountainous area based on PPC technology.Firstly,after study on highway cross-section survey theory computational model,two computational models suitable for steep mountainous terrain cross-section survey data processing and analysis are put forward.They are scatter measurement mode and variable step size local small triangular mesh method.Besides,tree(cluster)forest land correction algorithm is also put forward for tree dense zone.Secondly,based on the analysis on the characteristics of highway terrain in mountainous area and the condition of cross-section survey,detailed elaboration about the survey methods,data acquisition(analysis)methods,scope of application and other aspects about three methods of mountainous area cross-section survey technology is presented(GPS-RTK technology,total station without prism and PDA technology).Also,the survey results of the three methods are evaluated from the aspects of convenience,operation,measurement accuracy,cost and applicable condition.Thirdly,by combining of palm type simple total station and PPC technology and study of highway cross-section survey theory computational model,cross-section survey information system of high grade highway in mountainous area was developed based on PPC technology.The system design scheme,software(hardware)configuration,module function,user interface and so on are also expounded in the paper.Lastly,taking number T11 contract section of highway from Banba in Guizhou province(boundary of Guangxi and Guizhou)to Jiangdi(boundary of Guizhou and Yunnan)as supporting project,the highway cross section is measured in traditional survey method and three new survey methods.The comparison about those four survey methods is also taken from the aspects of survey people involved,survey duration,instrument weight and cross-section survey accuracy.The result shows palm type simple total station has prominent advantages in cross-section survey of high grade highway in mountainous area.Cross-section survey information system of high grade highway in mountainous area based on PPC technology developed in this paper,satisfies requirements for cross-section survey of high grade highway in mountainous area and realizes integrated operation of survey data acquisition,recording,calculation and cross-section mapping display,having good popularization and application value.
