This study aimed to recuperate the main target, thedisappeared Taiwan Prefectural City in Qing Dynasty, and the purpose was to restore the results of study in order to fill the gap of history of Taiwan conventional architecture that had once existed but only available in historical data nowadays.In all of the historical data from Taiwan records and documents that published in decades, there was an old illustrated book designed by Chiang,Yuan-shu the 32 ndprefecture magistrate to present. However, the editor brought up the personal issues to the Chiang’s contexts when editing; the author thus was not thought highly as it should be. The study discussed the background of the editor and focus on the points he offered when writing the preface of work Illustrated History to examine the materials in depth, hoping the results of doing so may renovate the actual situation recorded in the work. By re-studying with a more objective perspective, the study proved the actual value of the work it intended to have.After affirming the position and value of the material, the study aimed to recover the losing parts of researches of Taiwan Prefectural City based on such material; the study further reviewed the texts and illustrations and maps in current historical materials and then performed the restoration researches of base site and construction by adopting thecontemporary technology, tools, achievement and database. In terms of building restorations, the study discussed the relative points recorded in materials; the discussion reviewed base, construction system of buildings, ratios of height and width, purlins, forms of rooftop, rafters, hood, and installation of exterior in respective chapter. The study further compared buildings that designed by concepts of Chiang’s works, which are still standing firmly, to database established when maintaining to induce and arrange the characteristics of all parts and infer the reasonable scales of them which may be utilized as references of recovering. Finally, the study drafted the plan, section and elevation based on the results with form of 3-dimension architectural rendering to present the results of restoration coordinately.The study combined overlay mappings of examined plans of Taiwan Prefectural City which based on the results of restoration and the environment in latertimeline of such restoration, and examined whether the period between them has relationship of constructional transition to verify the rationality of inferences from this study.
