Vertical axis wind turbine has some distinct advantages such as blades simple and easy processed,low running noise,less pollution,easy installation and maintenance,has been widespread concern. This paper did some experiments based on the vertical axis wind turbine prototype to research the condition monitoring and fault diagnosis technology used in the field of wind power. Referenced to condition monitoring technology used at home and abroad,some relevant research has been carried out on the condition monitoring and fault diagnosis for the vertical axis wind turbine, the main research contents are as follows:First, the structure of the vertical axis wind turbine has been analyzed to find out the location which need to be focused monitored; the wind turbine blades, the supporting beams and spindle been mainly monitored and carried out static analysis and modal analysis for each part; specific monitoring program has been designed according to the results of analysis,mainly for stress-strain tests and vibration tests; simplely introduced the method which is used to analyze fault signal.Then, the hardware has been designed according to the monitoring system, including the design of the power supply module, the signal processing module and the strain measured circuit, the choice of the radio transmission module and the vibration acceleration sensor. Had build an experimental prototype system consists of wind turbines prototype with the designed monitoring system installed, small wind tunnel and dSPACE simulation platform.Finally,some relevant experiments of the monitoring system have been did,including the distribution of wind speed wind tunnel testing,stress testing of static and dynamic stress on blades, support beams and spindle stress test experiments, the spindle vibration testing and have impact vibration testing. The experimental data has been processed and analyzed, carried out to analyze the relationship between the monitoring data and wind turbine speed, judged whether there is a change in the impact of monitoring data to prepare for fault diagnosis and analysis of vertical axis wind turbine. Experiments show that: the design of the monitoring system can effectively determine the operational status of the vertical axis wind turbine, it is possible to improve the safety and reliability of the vertical axis wind turbine.
