As the most common ship propulsion appliance, people made different requirements on different ship propellers. Traditional propeller has become increasingly difficult to meet a variety of complex working conditions of special ships, researches on new propeller with better hydrodynamic performance, cavitation performance and noise performance have always been the work hotspot of domestic and foreign researchers. In the design process of many new propellers,the principle of bionics has been applied,the biological characteristics of humpback whales, tuna and owl provide a new direction for the study of propeller. In this paper, based on the concave-convex leading edge structure of humpback whale flippers and sawtooth structure of owl wings, design a bionic propeller with concave-convex structure leading edge and sawtooth structure blade tip.In the paper, utilize CATIA software to establish bionic propeller with concave-convex structure leading edge, bionic propeller with sawtooth structure blade tip and bionic propeller with concave-convex structure leading edge and sawtooth structure blade tip. Firstly make use of STAR CCM+ to generate mesh and calculate the hydrodynamic performance of propellers respectively and comparatively analyze the hydrodynamic performance calculation result of bionic propeller and prototype propeller so as to select bionic propeller with better hydrodynamic performance to carry out open water experiment with prototype propeller.Then use LES and ACTRAN to calculate the noise performance of bionic and prototype propeller respectively and conduct comparative analysis on the results.Through CFD calculation and open water text,it demonstrates the feasibility of a new bionic propeller with concave-convex structure leading edge and sawtooth structure blade tip,which not only provides a new way of thinking for the design of wings,marine rudder and propeller, but also lays foundation for the research of concave-convex structure and sawtooth structure on pod propulsion and free vane wheel.
