This study aims to investigate reinforced foundation that is adding some hi-strength material in natural foundation, and steel-plastic composite geogrid is used here. Improving the bearing capacity and the deformation properties of the foundation by setting the depth, the length and the layers of geogrid is very meaningful. Because of the complexity of reinforcing mechanism of reinforced ground, its design and theoretical researches fell far behind the engineering practice.By using the PFC2D software to simulate reinforced and unreinforced foundations and analyzing data and images under various engineering conditions,this paper aims to analyse the influence of factors on the bearing capacity. On the basis of previous work, formula of bearing capacity of reinforced foundation is given. The main achievements of this paper are summarized as follows:PFC2D is used to simulate unreinforced foundation and 48 different reinforced foundations that aims to investigate the influence of the depth, the length and the layers of geogrid on the bearing capacity, and the best way of reinforcement is obtained. The results show that the bearing capacity of the reinforced foundation is improved. The bearing capacity of reinforced foundations increase with the increase of the length and the layers, and decreased with the increase of the depth. Finally, by analyzing the data and considering construction, prices and other factors, the best way of reinforcement is obtained.By analyzing contact force, the time-load curve and the displacement, the influence of geogrid on contact force, settlement and deformation is studied. The results show that contact force of reinforced foundation is more evenly with the increase of the layers, and the settlement is avoided. In addition, the deformation properties of reinforced foundation are improved, but it will wane with the increase of the depth.By investigating the influence of the horizontal and vertical pull, deep foundation on the bearing capacity, formula of bearing capacity of reinforced foundation is given. Then using the revised Terzaghi formula, the techniques of limit analysis and the method presented in the paper to solve project example,results show that the formula presented in this paper is reasonable.
